Death- your views?

Even the ancient Romans and Greeks believed in an afterlife. On one end of the spectrum was the Elysian Fields (Heaven) and on the other, Hades (Hell). The Egyptians go w/o saying in their beliefs in the afterlife as do the ancient Chinese and Japanese. Many religions such as the Hindu religion actually worship there ancestors and treat their graves with incredible reverence in hopes that the departed ancestor will help them through the trials of life. They also believe highly in reincarnation to the point that they will kill no living thing for fear of killing a reincarnated ancestor. I've seen this in Bangkok and all the darn monkeys. Harm one and you'll get a lesson you won't soon forget....lol.

I reckon all this "Religion" malarky could only be dreamed up by "Human Beings" with a vivid, colourful imagination... ... ...!
It is steeped in the psyche of Americans, (especially from the South), but in Great Britain, (not Ireland, whose Catholics and Protestants are still killing each other over it), and in most of Europe now, the inhabitants are mostly secular, and have little interest in religion, and reasons for arguing, fighting, and killing each other over it.. ...!
Life is much too short for all that aggravation... ... ...!

Be nice to each other, and enjoy life while you are still here...'cos there's not much after you pop your clogs... ...!

Depending on whose account you go by they also believed the world was flat. http://nfo.edu/astro/models.htm There is some debate about this now. Some say this is a fallacy while others still insist the world is flat despite the evidence. What is certain is that our ancestors also believed that the whole universe rotated around our pathetic little planet. The "civilised" world was much smaller in those days & they had no way of visualising what it's really like. This would have been beyond any normal person's imagination. Some scientists like Gallileo were even persecuted by the church for daring to point out the truth. We now know better although there is no way of disproving other more mystical theories any more than they can be proven. I prefer Fozzer's outlook on life. I also agree with Omag's ideas on ghosts & spirits. The human brain is a wonderful thing & far more powerful than any computer.

Very smart Foz. That cap is the height of fashion. You could use those curtains to refabric the wings on your flying machine at Hendon. Much prettier than plain white. You would look like a butterfly.

I wonder if the current demise of believe in a supreme beeing is affected by the state of civilisation of a community. Romulus points out civilisations from a long time ago. Nowadays people start to understand how things work, what forces drive the universe... It's only normal that less evolved civilisations, like primitive tribes, would have a greater need to explain al those strange phenomena like earthquakes, vulcanos, lightning, diseas,... And if you don't have the capacity to study these events, isn't a supreme beeing the most logical solution?

Perhaps we modern people take the mistery out of a lot of things, but I feel we get a clearer and truer vision on the world...
