But there was a case not that long ago, which was centered around the word "God" in the pledge of allegiance.
The judges said that this was against the constitution and thus "God" was removed from the poa.
So if there really is no seperation between church and state, why did they remove it with this reason on behalf of an atheist?
Religion may be avoided nowadays, but persecuted? No way...
If it's not persecuted. Then why is it challenged at every turn and why is it fought against so fervently? Why does it make so many people uneasy? Why is something that has been fundamental to all the peoples of the earth since time in memorial now being removed from every aspect of life by a small minority of people? I'm baffled by the fact that the majority is being ignored.
I'm an athiest. You don't want to hear my opinion on the issue of "one nation, under God", or "in God we trust" or any of that. Trust me. But I accept there are people who believe in such things and don't try to change them so long as they respect my right to not believe as I choose.
Chris's post (the last sentence in particular) 'though somehow reminds me of Kants Golden Rule...but since I can't translate it correctly into english, I can't post it here.
I thought that we were having an intellectual, friendly debate. But as is the norm in today's society.
I don't believe that religion has any place in government or politics. I never discuss my political or religious leanings with anyone.
that's why the Anarchist Atheist Animist Democratic Socialist Party of the most Imperial Absolutist Populist God will rule the cosmos!
What's the Golden Rule in German? Our commonly accepted "Golden Rule" is: do unto others as you would have done unto you. Is this a good translation?
What exactly is "cooties"?
