Anyone Know Corfu (Greece ?)

Don't know whether this pix is a re-hashed joke or for real - the text that came with it suggests it is Corfu.

After much research - I find the Corfu is an Island off Greece, and the only Airport there seems to be Ioannis Kapodistrias.

I found this on the Sim and flew from there but can't see anything as dramatic as this.    Can any Greek, or holidaying type UK people enlighten me.....?

Never been there myself, but judging by these Images, particularly the aerial photos it seems that there aren't any roads that would be close enough (for such a low approach).

I've only looked at the first few, though.

That picture is a fake, you really think an aeroplane can fly that close to traffic lights and not hit them at least once?  Although if it was true it would not surprise me, the greeks love doing crazy stuff sometimes!  ;D

I've never been to Corfu, but many of these airfields on islands are like this. Also note the warning light mounted on top of the traffic lights. Also on the left is the familiar looking security fence. If it is a fake, then its a ruddy good one for attention to detail!
In Gibraltar the main road to Spain runs through the middle of the runway, so after seeing that nothing surprises me ;D

Not only on small islands, unless you consider Britain a small island. The main runways at RNAS Ford & RAF Tangmere were exactly like this. Although both airfields unfortunately closed many years ago the traffic lights are still in use.

its all camera trickery, it looks real enough. If you look at the road and traffic you can get an idea of the distance from the plane to the lights, looks at least 50 yards. Bristol airport while not quite as built up around it

;D

What a gullible lot you are

Take a look on airliners.net. The typical aircraft flying into Corfu are Airbuses, 737s, 767s and goodness knows what.

D'you really think they'd let those fly down a main street at or below building height through traffic?

Cmon - I ask you  ::)

Maybe not as gullible as you suggest. http://www.airliners.net/open.file/676686/M/

The photo is undated. Here's an Olympic Airways ATR-42 landing at Kerkyra Airport, Corfu on August 31, 2003.

:P ;D I also found a photo of Ms. Anemodoura. http://www.flugzeugbilder.de/show.php?id=246461
I'm seriously thinking of visiting Corfu with my camera next year. If I look her up she could probably give me a few tips. 8) ;)

At least some interesting points have come out of this, even if I'm no further ahead with a definite verification from someone "who has been there."

1.       It appears we have no Greek simmers on our site ?

2.       The replies were more interesting than "what was your last meal."

3.        Hagar has done a great quick research job ...

4.         If the crossing was genuine, and in New Zealand, there would be solid swinging arms to prevent those one in a thousand idiots from driving straight thru.....

We have hundreds of railway crossings here and a history of carnage at them.     I would be a worried pilot as I approached this one.

5.          If I had to choose, so far I think it's genuine.
