None of us ever really watch it. 80% at least is down right trash. We record programs then watch them as it suits us.
The computers are the dominant feature and the arguments are there - not the TV.

LOL I get my electricity from Southern Gas as apparently they can supply it much cheaper than the electric company. I get my gas from the electric company for the same reason. Work that one out. What a crazy world we live in.

Thanks Eno but I read it anyway. Telling me not to do something is like a red rag to a bull & I have an insatiable curiosity. You should know me better by now.

PS. Like Foz I live alone (perfectly happily) & I'm the boss around here - I think.

I'm seriously thinking of not renewing my TV licence when it expires in February. I'll dump the TV or give it away to the old people's home. Then I'll have to convince them I no longer have a TV set. I had this problem once before. They naturally assume that everone has at least one & you have to prove that you're some sort of social outcast before they stop bothering you. I think this is a very sad reflection on our society.

I'm the only person that occupies my place, so I have television privileges. In matter of fact, I can even watch TV in my boxers.

But sometimes I think it would be cool to have a somebody to share my place with.

lol I have full control of what I watch on my computer system (ATI TVWonder Card..)....

I have no control over what everyone else watches, so if I want to watch something I watch it on my computer, and if I'm not really interested in the show I'll pop  into the sim and mute the sound on the sim and "listen" to the tv program.. :-)

In the US you get anything that comes over the airwaves for "free".  Privately owned programming (the Networks like NBC, CBS, etc) is paid for by commercials.  Publicly owned programming (PBS, our version of your two channels of Aunt Beeb?)  is paid for out of the general tax fund and is supposed to be commercial free (except for the constant reminders that the programming is paid for by generous contributions from Exxon Mobil, Glaxo-Klein Smith, and a grant from the Malcom Baldridge foundation).

Then there's cable, which are signals which come in to your home via (who'd a' thunk it) cable.  This you pay a private company for.  If you don't pay they shut off your cable.  This programming is nearly indistinguishable from the network commercial paid for programming, leading us consumers wondering what we're actually paying for.  But at least we have the option of having a TV, watching TV, and not paying.

I can't see the point of being able to watch TV for free if all you can receive is crap programmes & adverts.

PS. Auntie Beeb is the pet nickname for the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation). I believe it was first coined by dear old Spike Milligan of Goon Show fame.

Heck, I willingly pay for cable so that I get an even larger choice of crap programs and adverts!  Seriously though, the network content is no better or worse then what's on cable.  Although the educational content on cable is better IMO then what's available from our public television.

We do get an Americanized (read: dumbed down) version of the BBC on cable but I had never heard it called "Auntie Beeb".  Of course I've also never heard of Spike Milligan or the Goon Show.  We did have Gilligans Island and the movie Goonies.  But somehow I don't think there's a relationship there...
