This is totally absurd

Postby MattNW » Wed Aug 18, 2004 12:33 am

Just came across this article and had to share it.

I'm all for security in light of 9/11 but paranoia has to stop somewhere.

Yeah, I saw that quite a while ago, though from a different news source.  It's rediculous, all this paranoia.

That is the problem with people they go from one extreme to another. But this story is so far overboard that you can no longer see the boat ;D
But really this is no worse than the woman that sued Mcdonalds cause she orderd a hot cup of coffe that had spilled on her & the cup didi not say caution hot liquid on it. I still can not beleive that there are people out there that are that stupid.

Shortly before Christmas, the FBI issued a terror alert to beware of drivers with maps, or reference books.

That is insane.  I have several maps in my glove box right now, does that make me a terrorist?

But not to kill the joke... They wouldn't even have their finger in the ready position if he didn't have a gun pointing at them.

This has been posted before. The article is quite old. I don't think we'll have to worry about the FBI or Interpol comming knocking at our doors.  ;D

So alarmed was the Staples clerk at the prospect of the ten year old learning to fly, that he informed the police

What an idiot. Does he not realize that the purpose of carrying it is to sell it? ::)  But of course, if the kid wanted some type of shooter game, would he have been alright with it??? ::)

Hi

If they react like that to a flight simulator then imagine what they'd be like if you went up to the counter with FS9 with a sticker saying "as real as it gets" on the side with another Flight sim...say....that Airbus add-on...geeze they'd proberbly have the army on ya  :-/

Its just stupid they over react with a flight sim yet when if comes to game that teach you how to use firearms they just don't care.  :(

Me i see FS2k* as a fun sim that i like to play when i get the chance. FS2k* is great and its thaught me many things apart from how to keep a plane in the air, such as programing, how to use a PC and its many features, navigation (alomost) and several other things.

You will always get people who take things to extremes. We call them Jobsworths over here & there's plenty of them about. ("Oh no. It's more than my job's worth to let you do that.") :o

Yeah, they want everyone driving around at random totally lost.

This is not so silly as it sounds. When Britain was threatened with invasion in 1940 all the road signs & railway station nameboards were removed. It was illegal for any civilian to possess a road map without official permission. This obviously led to a lot of confusion. Strangers were treated with suspicion so lost travellers would get no help from the locals. Attack was expected by air (paratroopers) & some unfortunate people on legitimate business were shot dead by jittery LDV (later Home Guard or Dad's Army) members. In reality there were very few parachutists or enemy agents. ::)
