Friday the 13th

Postby Craig. » Fri Aug 13, 2004 12:33 pm

Well in general i am not supersticious. But friday the 13th has struck, it looks like i have blown out a ligament in my knee, which due to insurance and required treatment reasons could cost me my college year.
Anyone else struck by the curse??
Or care to share past storys.

I broke up with my girlfriend and I'm still feeling messed up.
But that was two days ago.

Maybe Friday the 13th came early this time...

Oddly enough I've never had anything bad happen on Friday the 13th...

Triskaidekaphobia is fear of the number 13. It is usually considered a superstition.

It has been linked to the fact there were 13 people at the last supper of Jesus Christ, but it probably originated only in medieval times. It has also been linked to that fact that a lunisolar calendar must have 13 months in some years, while the solar Gregorian calendar and lunar Islamic calendar always have 12 months in a year.

Triskaidekaphobia may have also affected the Vikings - it is believed that Loki in the Norse pantheon was the 13th god. This was later Christianised, into saying that Satan was the 13th angel.

Some buildings number their floors so as to skip floor 13 entirely, jumping from floor 12 to floor 14 in order to avoid distressing triskaidekaphobics, or using 12a and 12b instead.

A specific fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia.

One famous figure to have suffered from triskaidekaphobia was the composer Arnold Schoenberg. He was born and died on the 13th of the month.

Triskaidekaphobia has never bothered me in the least. Actually, at times it seems like my luck is better on those days. ;D

Well, today I had a rope scrape across my face, I got a faceful of sea water and I got a snap-shackle hit me in the eye. I also got rope burn on my hands and feet and I hit my head on the boom the boat I was sailing whilst all this happened. Funnily enough, it's just all made a bit of sense... :P ;D

(And to think, I did all that for "fun".)

This is what we used to call clumsy hands & bad luck. :P ;D

I don't see what Friday 13th has to do with it. All this would have happened whatever the date. It's just an excuse.

My Mum was very superstitious. I tried to explain to her that it's all a load of nonsense but she wouldn't listen to me. This is nothing unusual. Nobody believes anything I tell them. ::) :D

PS. We lived at 13, Seventh Avenue for some years. I don't remember anything terrible happening & was sorry to leave. Make what you will of that. 8)

Bad things will only happen on Friday the 13th if you believe they will happen. It's just another day.

I don't know why some buildings don't have a 13th floor. I mean, if you're in one of thoes buildings and you're on the 14th floor, you know what floor you're really on.  ;D A lot of building's don't have a 13th floor. The one my grandma live in actually has it labled correctly. I always found that odd.

During a firefight many, many moons ago. In a country far, far away. I dispelled any notions that Friday the 13 th was unlucky. During this firefight, I had a bullet bounce off my helmet for starters and it really rang my bell....lol. I had a bullet graze my right upper forearm (leaving a sexy scar....lol). It didn't end there. I reached for my personal medical kit to aid a wounded soldier, only to find that it had been shot off my belt....literally. The bottom of the pouch was shot completely off and the medical kit was gone. Afterwards, we started back to our base camp. I reached into my compass pouch and pulled it out to get a barring. It looked fine until I opened it. The glass was shattered and the needle was broken. I don't how familiar any of you are about a US Military Lensatic Tritium Compass. But they are very rugged. I've never figured out what happened to it.

So at least that Friday the 13 th was very lucky for me!

Nothing bad happened yesterday for me. In fact, it was a good day. I got to go on my first cross country flight with my instructor! 8)

Last night after I got back from dinner, I was working on my Spitfire Mk. II model, and I couldn't find any gloves or anything like that, it was like midnight, but I decided to work on it anyway. But I wasn't careful..........enough........and spilled super glue all over my fingers......................ouch. My nails are still covered with superglue........ :( :( :(
