At the present time the only time I deal with a bank is too cash my paycheck.
I used to have a account but lost trust in the whole "bank" think when I found that they were allowing my Mortgage Company to automattically withdraw my monthly house payment. I had never given permission for this action. The reason this became a problem was that I kept extremly great records when balancing my accounts, then all the sudden I started getting NSF letters on a regular basis. So upon investigating how when one day I deposit $600 two days later I wouldn't have any money left it was then that I found out about it.
The bank states I now owe them $569 for a payment to my mortgage co. I say show me a signature on my check written too them! Which they can't do becasue I never wrote said check! They tell me it was a automatic withdrawl, I said show me where I signed and agreed to them allowing that, they can't they lost the records, which there are none becasue I never allowed that, I never want my money or the way my transactions are done to be controlled by anyone but myself, so I no longer do business with a bank anymore.
I cash my check and my hard earned money comes home with me where it is then kept in a safe place and always on hand when needed, no worries about bank hours or holiday closures

Some think I'm crazy but put it this way:
1) Exactly how much money do you really make (interest) with money kept in the hands of someone else? Checking account most offer no interest, savings a little, is it worth it?
2) Someone tries too sue you for what ever reason, can't prove how much money you have if any no matter what the court might try to subpenia!
3) Same goes for the IRS!! They can't prove you have a penny too your name! Yeah they know you work but can't prove you have anymore money, which also means they can't tax the money like they do if it is in a bank "earning interest"
4) No chance of ID Theft! (which has happened to me by the way)
Sure having a checking account has its advantages becasue a lot of places look to see if you have a account before selling you things like a car or home but that is just how they sterotype you, no bank account must be poor.
Tell that too the car dealer last month that didn't want to sell me a car because he he knew my financing wouldn't go through, he said "I'll do you a favor and keep you from embarassment". Should have saw the look on his greedy little face when I told him I wanted to pay in cash and pulled out $9000 in cash and told him I would by elsewhere

5) Not having to deal with the problems such as Dread's, now I'm waiting to hear what come of this and to see if this whole matter errupts into bigger problems than waiting. I wouldn't trust online banking as far as i could throw the SUV I just bought my mother, which by the way is "paid for" ;D

(great discounts paying up front!
