green textlinks

Postby farmerdave » Mon Aug 02, 2004 6:45 pm

in text on websites i am seeing certain words like cars, computers, games, etc. being turned into links with green lines under them.  I have also seen a pop-up with "textlinks" in the address.  I have deleted lots of popup/adware cookies, but they're still there.  There are no suspicious processes running in background,  but it has to be somekind of spyware.  Can anyone help?

Do you have some adware/spyware software? If not I would suggest you get some and run it.
I use Spybot search and Destroy, and NoAdware, the reason two is that way I'm sure that one isn't missing anything.
Spybot is free, the other isn't but I think there is a free trial.
Google for it, or try cnet.com allot of programs there to check out. Also get Spyware Blaster it is free, runs in the background and seems to stop 95% of the spyware before it gets in your computer!
Hope this helps

I've always been kind of leery about getting that stuff, because how do you know it isn't just going to install more spyware? ::) :P

I wouldn't worry about that I have never had any trouble with them.
But I understand your statement, just like the anti-virus software companies being the ones that produce viruses.
Which is what I heard but don't know if it is true.
Something that is true is the people that make radar detectors also make the radar guns cops use to clock your speed, doesn't make sense does it?
An way Like I said I use Spybot Search&Destroy, its free, never had it install any spyware itself.  And that is more or less proved by the fact that I also run No-Adware so if either one installed something I would think that one would let me know.
Also there are many of us here that use the same as I or some other programs and no complaints, so I recommend trying at least Spybot you might be surprised by the stuff it will find installed on your computer, especially if your running IE!
But it is good being cautious!

Glad too hear it.
If you don't have it set for automatic updates, be sure and check at least once a week for definitions, the same as you do for anti-virus.
Also think about getting Spyware Blaster, it will help keep spy/adware from installing on your computer, Spybot won't do that it just removes it.
