Trouble in the UK

Holidaymakers may be forced to carry their suitcases to the doors of aircraft at many of Britain's airports this summer, following an overwhelming vote for industrial action by thousands of check-in staff and baggage handlers.
Aviance's 4,300 staff handle more than 68,000 airline passengers a day. The company provides a quarter of all ground handling services at Heathrow and deals with many flights at smaller airports such as Luton, Liverpool, Manchester, Southampton and Teesside.

Well well well, the summer holidays are upon us and a strike appears! Do you think these guys are in anyway related to French or Spanish ATC, or Italian pilots?

well hopefully they get this sorted soon. my uncle aunt and cousins go on holiday from heathrow on saturday, and as you know i leave gatwick next tuesday. still not sure exactly which airline aviance handle though

The timing obviously suits their purposes but it always seemed very cynical to me. The unions always claim that they have no intentions of inconveniencing the general public yet always pick holiday times to take their actions. I don't know what it's all about & they might have a genuine case for all I know. Why they can't get round a table & discuss this like civilised human beings is beyond me. They behave worse than a lot of schoolkids. I would like to bang all their heads together & maybe knock some sense into them.

Reading through a discussion at Anet, there is an employee there who is complaining about the money situation. They are claiming that, though they got an above average pay rise last year they should get the same again this year, despite this years still being slightly above the inflation thingy. They are also claiming morale is low all this is nothing but greed had they gotten a below average increase or none at all then maybe they could complain

Why can't those passengers carry their suitcases themselves? A little excercise won't harm them...
Or they just spend their holidays in their beautiful country.

The airline worker's have been threatning action here as well on and off for the past year. Of course they can't strike because they'd be out of a job if they did. Air Canada is on a weak footing right now. They know if they went on strike, Air Canada would go out of business and no other airlines would be able to hire them.

It's probably better to carry your own luggage anyway. At least that way you know it's on your flight and not on a flight to Kuala Lampur.  ;D
