Where do you mean? The buzzard is a protected species in my country. Magpies aren't though.

...doesn't matter over here. If something is a dangerous nusance like that, it gets killed eventualy, protected or not. For instance, a certain big shot twit (people from the Pac-West and the Rockies will know who) and the government decided to reintroduce wolves to an area of the Rockies where they had been extinct for several centuries, at the cost of several hundred million to taxpayers. The pack of 15 or so wolves stayed in their designated area for a week or two and than simply started straying out and killing loads of livestock in the surounding areas. Nothing was done for several months and finaly the people took things into their own hands. Within 2 months, all were dead, either by gunshot wounds or poisioning. Of course, the damm things were protected and no one was ever caught. ;D

The problem with protected bird spieces in England is that the only birds not protected are Rooks, Ravens and Magpies. Even Seagulls are protected.

We've heard of them alright. However, the Buzzard was obviously careful not to dive on a trigger happy, shotgun toting maniac. ;D

Can you British even have shotguns over in the UK with all the strict gun control laws?

Here in America, I don't think you can 'legally' shoot a raven, crow, or seagulls unless their being a real nuisance. But there's so many of 'em that I don't think the authorities would care if you lied about it and killed a few ::)

From my understanding pump action shotguns with the capacity of more than 3 shells are not legal in England. However, single and double barrelled shotguns are perfectly legal if you have the correct license (the same license enables you to own a fully operational howitzer ;D) Aside from that the only things that arn't legal are machineguns and pistols. Though, I think you'll have a hard time getting a rifle over .22 caliber.

I don't think the old bill would take too kindly to anyone carrying a shotgun on a highway, let alone blasting away at birds with it. ::)
