Going to Europe

Postby chomp_rock » Mon May 31, 2004 8:39 am

I'm glad to announce that I'm going to Europe in 11 days. I will be spending 10 days there; 5 in Britain and 5 in France. I hope to visit a museum or two as well. Which museums are good for seeing aircraft, especially those from WWII? I'd really like to see some old planes while I'm over there.

as far as museums in the UK, you will need to be more specific where your going, england may be small but its not as small as people think:) Cosford and hendon are both meant to be really good, cosfords just out of birmingham, and Hendons the RAF's main museum near london. Yeovil museum is good for historic naval aircraft, thats down in the south west. Have a great trip and bring back pictures:)

I would recommend Hendon and the Fleet Air Arm museum at Yeovil. Hendon has a lot of WWII aicraft as well as a few from the cold war etc. Yeovil on the otherhand, has hoards of navy aircraft along with the Concorde prototype. Which you can go on board have have a look around on.

Too far for me Craig. Old Warden is closer & suits me better anyway. ;)

Of course, it will depend on the weather.

PS. I missed this one.

Or if you get the chance and are heading out towards Cambridge, then Duxford is a MUST as its the home of the Old Flying Machine Co. (excellent chance to see real warbirds turnin' and burnin'

Hendon and Duxford are the places to visit to see WW2 aircraft although both have many more types. Hendon is free to enter and is very close to London (half hour tube ride) so you can make a day of it and pull in some of the other sights of out Capital if you wish.
Duxford is a living museum with many flying warbirds based there. If you are in the UK in July, Flying Legends is the show to see.
