Best/Worse John Wayne Films?

Postby Wing Nut » Mon Jun 07, 2004 9:21 pm

I'm not a big John Wayne fan, but I do generally like his films.  When Wayne was on, he was dead on.  When he missed, he missed in a big way.  Wayne was basically a one trick pony, but that was a good one.  No one played western's better than he.  But he also had some terrific bombs in his carreer too, mainly when he tried to step outside of that role.

My favorite 3:

The Cowboys
The Searchers
True Grit

My least favorite:

Jet Pilot
McQ
The Green Berets

Jet Pilot had all the wannabe action of Top Gun combined with the intelligence of Iron Eagle II.  It had some excellent footage of F-86's in action...

Personally I couldn't stand the Duke, sorry Kevin.
My grandfathers favourite was definately True Grit, he loved that film!

My Grandfather is a diehard John Wayne fan, and he's got most of his movies.

Best? The Fighting Kentuckian, of course :)  Eh ok, The Sands of Iwo Jima was a good movie, and Flying Tigers was pretty good too.  Jet Pilot was pretty bad :-/

Myself and the boss have to take a stand with Mark.  Can't stand Marion but love Jimmy Stewart.

The Conquerer...  I had forgotten about that one.  John Wayne plays Genghis Kahn.  ::) :(

Best movies?  1.McClintok. Remember the drunk indian when everbody was fighting in the mud?  "Oh McClinktok, good party, but no whisky.  We go home"
and 2.  The Alamo.  It's priceless when Colonel Travis lights the cannon with his cigar when the messenger tells him to surrender or no quarter will be given. 8)
