Agreed, it is a classic film, I think the reason Cruise didn't get the oscar was that Hoffman gave a definitive performance, and anything else paled beside him...

Great Movie!!
I feel one of Dustin Hoffmans greatest performances!!

Watched 20/20 last night and they were talking about autistic/sevant minded people. And there is a doctor trying to learn how to tap into the mind to open up the parts that "normal" people can't use. It also explained in great detail how the autistic and sevant mind works compared to those that are normal (for lack of better word).
Very interesting!

Awesome movie....very moving.  :'(

My brother is an autist, too. He's not as "bad" as Rainman, but he still behaves quite different than "normal" kids in his age.

one of my fave's aswell. Reminds me of when I first met my girlfriend. We were watching that movie on our first date. But the movie is not just a stroll down on memory lane, no this is a quality flick, Dusting Hoffman totally owns and it's a touching story without getting too corny.

Also the soundtrack is top notch (Hans Zimmer)

5/5 star rating!

A classic film ...... and endorsed by the UK Autistic society as being a "True to life" portrayal of autism.

My step son is a classic autistic not quite as bad as Raymond but he has a fantastic memory for the stories that he reads. He keeps us amused by reciting his favorite bits from movies and the stories. However the downsides are the unpredictable behaviour, irrational fears and inability to communicate properly.

Exploder ...... how old is your brother?

cheers
