Is it nerves

Postby Craig. » Thu May 20, 2004 4:01 pm

Or could there be something to it.
Basically as you all know i am almost certainly going to college this august/september, the problem is evertime i think about it, i get excited till the reality of actually having to goto classes hits me, and that annoying voice in my head says you dont stand a chance of suceeding, this is usually there when i take on a challenge and it usually makes me work harder to proove it wrong, but this time it really does feel like i cant do this, i have been out of school now for 4 years, i am useless at Algebra which seems to be a big part of college these days, so is it nerves or is there something to it?
Also to current and recently released students is college really as bad as some of the stories i have heard, and whats the best way to make life easier for the first few weeks?

Don't get me wrong here but you won't have to touch algebra inless you choose a subject that involves it. Like sciences. If you can't do it then choose a subject that won't make you.

I made that mistake. Was going into commerce but got kicked down by Calculus. Switched to History & Political Science. First year is all about finding what you really want to do.

not really, i chose pharmacy and although it is really boring in some of the lecturers (namely statistics) i am actually enjoying what i am doing.  also i do have the privledge of getting into this degree in the first year, it takes most people 1 or 2 years at university until they get into it.  People who choose straight science are lucky, they get the option to choose what they major in.  in pharmacy i am told what subjects to do and i dont get any say in the matter.  4 sujects this year, 5 subjects next year and 6 subjects in 3rd year.  what joy awaits me :P!

Craig, go get a book on algebra and brush up ;)
Also the first few weeks try and ignore most people, the gobby types tend to drop out by week 5-6 when they realise that it takes work to pass, and showing off isn't impressing anyone (of course if its a leggy blonde then please feel free to ignore this advice ;))
