new star trek film

i think the link says all that there is to be said right now as far as info is concerned. I think this obsession with prequals is getting too much, star trek history has been covered extensivly and re-written pleanty of times ::) while i would love to see another TNG movie, i know its a bad idea as nemesis was a perfect end to that era. The crews of DS9 and voyager dont hold enough drawing power to have a movie, and both sets have moved away to completly differant lives again covered in books and short movies spots. And Enterprise, well thats looking likely to be cancelled(while i admit the first series was ok), the newest series has become so messy its unbelievable. And would both the star trek fans and non fans be able to accept a completely new cast. Maybe its time to close down the star trek movies altogether, i cant think of a better way to end the legacy of the Enterprise(lets face it no other ship name would draw an audience) and its not worth the risk of crapping on it with an awful movie.

I think they should take a look at Star Trek's rival cult hit Star Wars. Look how bad the Star Wars prequels were. I'd just like to put that Jar Jar in the Windows Recycle Bin. More cartoon than anything eles.

I wonder if this prequel will deal with the events leading up to Enterprise (WWIII) or resurecting Kirk to show how he got where he did.

I agree with you Craig on Enterprise. It's starting to become more like Star Wars with bits of Battlestar tossed in there.

personally i feel they could expand on the end of first contact, if they use the same actors. The begining of starfleet, how the vulcuns held humans back.
Resurecting Kirk would be suicide. Not even his makeup artist can make him look young again ;D

Oh dear. Although I am a huge Trek fan, I have started watching Enterprise now only when I'm in or on the right shift. I missed about five shows and then saw the last two and nothing has changed. It was better week to week rather than this Babylon 5 style running story line. They got away with it in DS9 but this story is just boring.
Nemesis was an OK film but they will never top First Contact. They should let it go now and do something new.

star trek has had a good run, and i dont think even Gene Rodenberry could have predicted it being as big as it is.  Maybe it really is time to let it go, at least for now, give the writers a real chance to think up something new, instead of a rush job. Just as a point of note, the actual movie quote for nemesis is. " a generations final journey begins" while its open to interpretation, its safe to say there could be one final complete tie up to it. as was mentioned in first contact by picard, as long as there are letters left in the alphabet then there will always be another Enterprise. And where theres an Enterprise theres a movie to be made.
I will say to those who didnt like nemesis too much, firstly put out of your head first contact, i dont think any movie can be compaired to that. Then sit and watch Nemesis a few more times over the course of a month or two, and pay close attention to the movie, each time you do something new will pop-up that makes the movie seem better each time. The only thing that bothered me about the movie was the action sequences between the Enterprise and the Scimitar, the Quantum torpedos looked like white pulse phasers, not the destructive weapons they are. Next when the two ships are about to collide it shows that the scimitar isnt as big as its made out to be in wider angle shots. And while its supposed to be rivaled to a cube in terms of weapons we all saw what happened to the cube in first contact ::) and finally the new romulan warbirds, me thinks they need to go back to the D-deridex class vessels. All these things are topics which a final movie could clear up a little

I still think you can't beat Star Wars for destructive weapons and cool ships. Put the prequels out of your heads and take a look at the stuff that happens after ESB and beyond. The Eclipse II class Star Destroyer is one one mean bugger.

I agree that it's time to give Star Trek a drink. Nemisis and the last episode of Voyager really tied up the story nicely with the destruction of the Borg and peace with the Romulans.

i could never get into star wars. But if you want huge ships try a tactical fusion cube from the borg. 8 tactical cubes join together to form one huge cube combining the shielding and firepower of all the cubes. Its roughly the size of a medium sized planet if not bigger. :)

On the topic of ships and weapons.

I'd like to see a Borg cube go up against a Eclipse SD or the Death Star. The way I understand their shielding is that it adapts to the weapon's phase frequency making the weapon useless. I think something like that would only useful against energy weapons. Lasers in Star Wars aren't lasers at all but rather highly energized bolts of compressed gas. Star Wars ion canons (seen in ESB) could also take out a cube. I remember an episode of Voyager where they came across a cube that had been pounded to death in an ion storm. Ion weapons are much more concentrated. Seeing ion weapons disrupt electronic circuts, the borgs would all get their implants fried and therefore die. I have the book that explains how all the Star Wars technology works.

I think Vader would sort the Borg out without much trouble. If they only knew the power of the Dark Side...

Let's not get into a ST/SW weapons "contest"...please, we all no there is no contest. :)

Defiant, by itself, could run through the Imperial Fleet, and the Death Star, as seen in Return of the Jedi. It's only limitation would be quantuum torpedo loadout, it might have to save those for worth-while targets (Super Star Destroyer and the Death Star).

Let's face it, the Death Star is about on par with the TOS "Doomsday Device", and NCC-1701 (no bleedin' A or B...) took several hits with only moderate damage. Rebel cruisers were obliterated with a single shot. If the Death Star had met NCC-1701D Worf would have stood at the tactical console and would have announced that "Their weapons are no threat against our sheilds", Picard would be trying to explain that they are on a peaceful exploration mission and Deanna would be saying that she senses great hostility.

Riker would, of course, be smoothing his uniform and looking around the bridge at whoever was talking. :)

lol i like the way this is going ;D
although sorry, the defiant is at best capable on its own, its best suited when its paired with 3 other defiants. And i think we all know that NCC1701E with its 600 photon and quantum torpedos would wipe the floor with anything in the SW movies ;D ;)
and just so you know, lasers were the original weapon of choice on starships they were then upgraded to phasers. So again Mr Worf would be standing there saying their weapons are useless.

I wouldn't say that a Sovereign (NCC-1701E "Enterprise" is a Sovereign class Starship) would wipe the floor with anything in the SW movies...

I would say that a Sovereign would wipe the floor with everything in the SW movies...all at once, Rebels and Empire both.

A wing of 4 Defiant class would be best...but the original DS9 Defiant, with the cloaking device could probably do it alone. De-cloak, beat the blue blazes out of a target...repeat as neccessary. :) Vader and the Emporer would be problematic...they would sense Defiant even through cloak. Defiant is so much more manueverable than anything bigger and so much more powerful than anything more manueverable that it would only delay things though. :)

Voyager, as seen in the final episode, would probably think they had wandered onto someone's gunnery range and not realize they were supposed to feel threatened. :) Just imagine the shock value when Voyager fires 4 shots, one at the Death Star, one at the Super Star Destroyer and one each at two Star Destroyers...and the tri-phasic torpedos obliterate each target, leaving little or no wreckage. :)

The most damage the remainder of the fleet could cause would be overloading Voyager's comm system with offers of immediate, unconditional surrender. :D

Wonder how the Federation can deal with the temporaly enhanced Voyager...it alters the balance of power in the Alpha Quadrant. After all, it dealt with multiple Borg Cubes...and forced them to retire or be destroyed.
