Best World War One Film

Last night I took the opportunity to watch a film on the History Channel here in Canada.

It was about the Red Baron of Germany and Roy Brown of Canada during World War One.

While delivering some stuff to the museum this morning I spoke with several other volunteers who had a lot more insight about that time period than myself.

I was informed that this was NOT one of the best historical films ever produced.

Did anyone else see it and comments are most welcome.

Missed it. I like history but I never have the desire to watch the History Channel.

I did see All Quiet on the Western Front a while ago. Good view from the German prespective.

It might be old & a tad corny but the original "Hell's Angels" is reputed to have some of the best flying sequences ever filmed.

This James Whale/Howard Hughes WWI drama is renowned for its stunning air combat scenes, which required 137 pilots to shoot, and for being the most expensive film of its time, costing a staggering $3.8 million. Oxford students and brothers Roy and Monte Rutledge (Ben Lyon, James Hall) sign up to fight with the Royal Flying Corps. Trouble arises when Roy's girlfriend, Helen (Jean Harlow), takes a liking to Monte. Monte, cracking under the pressure of fighting, considers another kind of betrayal. The brothers must wrestle to overcome these troubles--or a key flying mission could be jeopardized.

 If the film you saw was "Von Richthofen and Brown" then "historically" no, its not the most accurate film on the subject.  Some of the events may never of happened or were altered for dramatic effect and the time line compressed.  But as a WW1 air war flick I think it works better than "The Blue Max".

saw "Aces High" yesterday, other than that the only WW1 film I have seen is "Galipoli"

"Paths of Glory" from 1957 and starring Kirk Douglas and directed by Stanley Kubrick is mine.
