A 68-year-old glider pilot has died after a mid air collision with another glider near an airfield, police said.
The accident happened in a field near Lasham Airfield, at Alton, off the A339 in Hampshire.
The pilot has been identified as a 68-year-old man from Fleet, in Hampshire.
The second pilot, from Ascot, in Berkshire, managed to parachute to safety and escape unhurt, Hampshire Police said.
He was currently being interviewed by police.
Three investigators from the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) in Farnborough were at the scene where wreckage from the light aircraft was said to be scattered in the field.
A Hampshire Police spokeswoman said: "There was an incident near an airfield in Hampshire, two gliders were involved.
"We don't know what exactly happened or the involvement of the two gliders.
"We do not know the specific sequence of events."
Twenty fire-fighters had attended the incident, along with Hampshire Police and Ambulance.
