Not really, I know of something a little similar a few years back. A schoolmate of mine joined the navy (I'll not make any comments/jokes), his pride and joy was his car, he loved it.
His fiance managed to total it two days after he left port (oops!). A friend took some photos of the crash and posted them to me in Gibraltar (I was stationed there at the time), I then cut them up to make some jigsaws for him. Each photo became an individual jigsaw in an envelope. When he arrived in Gib I gave him the envelopes with the comment "Guess what this is?"
Once he'd finished having a tantrum (and a not inconsiderable number of beers) he got over it. He is happily married to the young lady concerned and they have two lovely sons, who are car nuts
