It scared ths s*** out of me!

Hi all,

Yesterday i saw a show on NGC, about the crash of an MD-80 ( Alaska airlines) in the bay-area of Los Angeles.

Sloppy maintenance and a defect bolt that controls the horizotal stabilisor caused the plane to crash into the blue... First the stabilisor got stuck, and after some troubleshooting by the pilots the bolt broke and the stabilisor was out off control.

NTSB discouvered there was no grease on the bolt causing it to jamm. Lack of proper maintenance.

I remember that.
Actually I think they grounded all the MD 80's so they could be checked for that problem!

Don't get me wrong, I agree that the tapes are bone chilling, but there are some people who might wanna hear them.

Personally, I listened to about two and then couldn't listen to any more.

been on many an MD80 flight and while they dont seem to safe in certain cases, they fly so many times a day they must of sorted this out pretty well.

As for the tapes, its the ones that are really quiet through the whole thing that get me the most. added to the description from other pilots with whats happening.
