lets not get to hostile over this one. Just made a suggestion of what they could do if it is cancelled, they were in a simmilar position when they aquired the Harrier, and look how succesful that went on to be with the US

Maybe they expect the F-35 to suffice? ???

I doubt the F-35 would have the range or the radar ability the U.S. Air Force would like.

They won't get rid of the F-22... This program has been going on since 1990... They won't let go of it so soon to completion... As of the F-35, that's almost in service too, and won't be canned, either because there's so many branches lined up to recieve it...

F-35--From http://fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/f-35.htm

The Air Force expects that to purchase 1763 F-35s to complement the F-22 Raptor and replace the F-16 as an air-toground strike aircraft

U.S. Air Force
1,763 aircraft  U.S. Marine Corps
480 aircraft

U.K. Royal Navy
60 aircraft  U.S. Navy
480 aircraft

F-22-- From http://fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/f-22.htm

The F-15 fleet is experiencing problems with avionics parts obsolescence, and the average age of the fleet will be more than 30 years when the last F-22 is delivered in 2013. But the current inventory of F-15s can be economically maintained in a structurally sound condition until 2015 or later. None of the 918 F-15s that were in the inventory in July 1992 will begin to exceed their expected economic service lives until 2014.
