I really doubt they will scrap this program.  They have spent too much money, made too much of a deal out of it, and developed an aircraft that is too good to not use.  The government may delay the date they enter service for a little longer-but I would be shocked to see them cancel it.

I think this is just "scary" talk, I doubt they'll cancel the program.  But then again I didn't think they would cancel the Camanche either.

I wouldn't be suprised if it was canned. Its gone further over budget than the Eurofighter, and its going to cost the USAF an arm and a leg to equip its squadrons with it.

The link aint working for me, but I can't honestly see the F-22 getting cancelled. Its been taken too far to be cancelled.
Personally though I don't see the need for the F-22, its almost too advanced for its own good  :P

They might as well just cut the budget and let the program sit for a few years and save money, then in about 15 years start it back up.  The F-22 will still be up-to-date then(<---funny...laugh ;D.) ::)

apart from the stealth side its no more advanced than some of the current fighters, Like i said in the other topic on this. If they do cancel this but desperatly need a fighter to replace the F15 then it may be worth looking into leasing or buying some Typhoons they are 1/4 of the cost of the F-22, and every bit as good minus the stealth, plus they are swing role something which the F22 isnt really. Then in a few years when they start the F-22 they can sell off the typhoons to whomever may want them and get some money back to pay for the F-22 project to be started.

Ya know, maybe buying the EuroFighter would be a good sign of faith for the Brits buying the AH-64 Apache, as well as going along way in mending some broken fences with other European contries.

I read an article a few years back where a retired U.S. Navy Admiral (and fighter pilot) advocated buying Russian fighters and reequipping them with US engines and avionics/weapon systems.....

That's my way of thinking when it comes to the debate about the A-400M (new transport aircraft from Airbus to replace the old C-160s). Why doesn't the Bundeswehr just buy those excellent An-70 from Belorussia, equip them with european avionics and assemble them in Germany? Would save a big amount of money and time IMHO... ::)
