thsi topic is about boeings proposal to replace the KC-135's with a 767 tanker.  The plane would be built in wichita.

I am not insulting people of the east(yet), just politicians who dont know nuttin about the military(mainly in the east is where the opposition starts)

Mucho Confused

Postby Scorpiоn » Thu Apr 01, 2004 5:33 pm

My brain is fried!  What in the world is this about, isn't there an article somewhere?  What exactly is happening with the 767?

I have an underlying feeling this might be a prank, as I haven't seen one shred of detail! :-X

Then again, maybe not.

This deal is going to be the supplement and eventual replacement for the USAF KC-135 Tankers. If this deal falls through......
NO DEAL=NO KC-767 TANKERS=NO REPLACEMENT FOR THE KC-135'S=USAF HAVING TO KEEP USING THE GODFORSAKEN, AGING, FALLING APART, KC-135'S.
:P

Deal has to go through.

I just read the articles. :'(

Sure it's bad, but it's not as if the world's going to end.  The way y'all were hoopin' and hollerin' around I thought the Air Force was being liquidated!  So the Armed Forces are having their corners cut by politicians who want their Christmas bonuses.  Nothing new. :-X

From what I hear, America's doin' pretty good; our British friends are having their defenses ripped apart and put back together on a daily basis! :o

In other words, it's just silly to get so upset over something like this. ::) ;)

KC-135 is a fuel-eating, smoky and noisy old 707...

How many people do they have to buy out each year because of aircraft noise near the airbases?

Even the Saudis, who have loads of oil and few people on the ground complaining about the noise, decided to replace the engines to more economic (and silent) ones

Basically the USAF wants to convert a number of 767's to KC-767's to replace the aging KC-135's. Problem is, Congress with all its usual politics, is slowing the process. Air Force tech are LITTERALLY scraping the bottom of the barrel for parts, almost no one makes parts for 40 year old airframes, some have to be made from scratch. Soon enough accidents are going to happen, how would you like a 100 ton plane filled to the brim with AVGAS landing in your backyard? Of course if that happened all blame would go on the USAF, for poor maintanence or what not. While Congress gets away with it, and our military falls into hopeless ruin.

Are all 707's at the AMARC totally scavenged out for parts?

Some guys in africa still fly around with them, as does the spanish airforce

No AVGAS in those-JP-8, even worse

Yes, as a matter of fact, an old KC-135 here was put out of commision fo ruse for parts(that works, untill you run out of planes!)

The R's arent that bad noise(you get used to it)
150 jobs is alot when it is right down the road from your house.  A friend of my mothers, had a husband who was laid off last year.  he had a kid on the way, and he left her and started smokin' the "mary jane"
