Now I'm really mad...

Well, I went down to get my telescope today and on the way back, we stopped at Wal-Mart for a few things.

ask any stores in the immediate area if they have parking lot cameras, assuming you havent already. definatly a shame though.

I don't think I know anybody who hasn't been, in some way or another touched by crime >:(

The only suggestion I can make is that you go back to the shop where you bought the Telescope from and ask the Manager if he keeps a record of the serial numbers. Then, after a week or so, hit the local pawn shops, you'll probably find the telescope!

Keep an eye on the local papers Classified section as well, you'd be amazed how dumb the average crook is!
I hope you get your gear back, its a fair bit of dough.

Well, at least you'll never leave expensive kit like that on the back seat of your car outside a supermarket again. Not meaning to be harsh or anything but it was a risky move leaving all the stuff there. Especially when people are as they are.

Yeah, it was pretty stupid in hindsight.

Unless they want it themselves these mongrels will need to offload it. This is a pretty specialised piece of kit which not everyone will be interested in.

A friend of mine had a brand new digital R/C transmitter in a special case stolen from his garage. He realised it was stupid to have left in the garage but had the presence of mind to ring the local model shop next morning before they opened for business. Sure enough, an hour after he rang 2 shifty looking characters came in the shop & tried to sell them a brand new transmitter. One shop assistant took the TX & kept them talking while the other called the fuzz. Caught red-handed - get outta that. As Ozzy said, most of these criminals are idiots.

Sorry to hear it and I hope they get the assh*les who did this!!
I have had stuff stolen from my car before, did the whole police report thing and got the same thing about nothing happening. Bad thing was is that I knew who did it!! It was the neighbor kids, but the cops said they would need more proof. so i got it for them. I broke into their car and took it back!!! I was threatend to be arrested for "stealing" back my own stuff!! The kids had the stuff in the back seat in plain view and the door was unlocked so I grab it.
Needless to say the cops took it as evidence and two weeks later they called and said I could come get it, after paying them $150 recovery fee!!! I was the one who recovered it!!
And as for the morons who stole it, they pressed charges against me for breaking into their car! It was thrown out of court when the judge learned that the items were mine.
But hopefully Pippin you don't have as much hassle!!

like i said, find out it if the parking lot has surveilance cameras, if they do find out who they belong to and explain the situation. Alot of places keep the tapes for weeks if not months, so that way you can get yourself some evidence.
