"Redistribution of this release is permissible as long as the product remains freeware and this copyright notice remains intact. No charge shall be made for any product that includes this archive or works derived from the materials contained within."

That's the distribution restriction I use on my own releases. You'll notice tat as long as no money changes hands you haven't violated my conditions.

Under a principal known as "Fair Use" you would not be vioating the agreement even if an amount of money did change hands...as long as the sum of money was only sufficient and intended to cover your expenses.

It's profit motive that makes the difference:

Try to make money off my work and you are in violation.
Try to recoup your costs of redistribution and it is OK.

The distribution of payware without a distribution license is always a violation.

Hey.

My friend has FS2002 and FS9. He hasnt got internet because he got hacked and then when he got that sorted got a Virus which destroyed ALL of his Files. No wonder he doesnt trust it anymore.

He comes over to my house now and again an I download some freeware files for him then put them onto CD's. No money changes hands. He keeps the CD's on the side and no-one else borrows them.

I just wonder if this is breaking a Freeware world code?

If it is I'll stop it and have the disks back.

Sam :-[

Hi Sam. Don't worry. You're not doing anything wrong unless you try to  profit by selling the files. Let's not get this thing out of proportion. ;)

lol, Cheers guys. After reading the posts I got myself into a bit of a worry. Didn't want to be doing anything wrong.

I don't even charge him for the CD so I'm making -profit I suppose. Thaks for setting me at ease!

also contacted abacus, who won't like there products being stolen

Well if this thread is anything to go by, I'd say the odd's are stacked against him, particularly after what you've said (BMAN113VR), - even if most of 'em out there get away with it.

Well done BMan. It's handy to have contacts. ;)

I heard back from UK2000. Here's what they say.
Yes its been going on for some time, I feel ebay should have email address to report criminal activity, but I cant find a way to contact them

If anyone who uses Ebay knows an e-mail address I'll pass it on.

Thanks Craig. It looks like an online mailbox. I'll pass it on. A lot of companies use this idea now, probably to combat spam. I've tried them before & never received an acknowledgement to say they received my comments. ::)

they have an online email form for violations somewhere, it takes about 10 minutes to find if you are a member
