I don't think there's any need to start just getting rid of y'alls pictures for the fear of being targeted.  This might turn into a witch hunt if so.  Just any images you do have, keep them within reason.

I usually change my sig each month. Since I haven't found one I like yet, I am just removing mine which was 24k and making a little announcement  ;D

Not wanting to sound rude or anything but I think the TLUK team could reduce the width of their sigs a bit. I have nothing against any of them. Just the width of their sigs. I wouldn't mind seeing Icedfoxtrotters made a bit smaller either...

How about using this as you sig pic instead?

Little or no visual degradation...but check out the file sizes.

Not trying to single anybody out...but file size directly equates to bandwidth charges, and Pete pays those charges himself. Anything we can do to help is beneficial (which is why I have always used my own server for images in the past).

It seems that many of us have been breaking the rules without realising it. As I mentioned before, there are very few rules & the ones we do have are for very good reasons. Abiding by them is only common courtesy to Pete, without whom we wouldn't have this forum in the first place. It's interesting to note that the only ones complaining about this seem to be comparatively new members.

Out of curiosity, I checked my avatar size and was surprised to see that it was about 22k. I was able to resize it down to about 6k without muchof a noticible loss in visual quality.

I'll bet this alone will save Pete several gigs of bandwidth a year

Two seperate issues...

1. Some are upset by dimensions...if too large they can distort the forum and make reading messages a tad difficult.

2. File Size, this directly impacts on the bandwidth charges of running the site and most of us would rather lighten the load on Pete where possible.

In my case I had loaded all my avatar and sig pics onto my own webspace once I had a reliable and fast service. Didn't remove much of a load...but it was some and I use them across multiple forums. I knew I was outside policy but no one had ever complained so I cheated a bit.

Bad me. Now that it has come up...back into policy for me!

Please don't have a moderator beat me...I be good from now on. *cringes in corner*

Scorp has simply posted this as a reminder. He's already made it quite clear that this is not a witch-hunt. The rules have been there for a long time. They're plain to see every time you go to the Upload page to upload an image. http://www.simviation.com/yabbupload.html
I have to admit that I'm as guilty as anyone else by exceeding the avatar limit. I have now corrected this.

This member is young & new & obviously not aware of the rules. When I first saw his sig I thought it was a screenshot. I have tried to help him but he has not replied to my welcome. I tried to resize his sig image myself but it's hosted on an outside server. I don't know what more I can do.

Pete explained the reason for all images to be uploaded to the SimV server. Some hosts don't allow images to be used elsewhere & take measures to prevent this. Accessing other sites takes time & slows everything down not only this forum but also the main site. People often complain that SimV is sometimes slow to access yet some still object to doing anything to help prevent it.
