why did you even let this person get away? doesnt matter if the thing was worth $1 or $100, it was yours. Personally if that had been me i would have been after that guy and make him think twice before stealing again

I can think of several reasons - of course with the hindsight of age - one of them being is the overall effort worth it?

The idiot(s) who did the bump and steal are obviously immature/ insecure bullies, and who would probably love someone coming after them so that they can once again prove their "superiority" by "defending" themselves.

Maybe next time, if there is one, careful vigilance can avoid the bump and a discreet foot can trip the assailant.

As i found one time, these bullies are only tough when they think they can get to you. Having had a guy continously going at me i eventually said enough is enough, and took this guy out, its funny from that point on he never said another word to me(and while i did something i told myself i wouldnt do, it worked wonders, and it meant one less person causing problems for others) And incase some of you younger gentlemen are worried about being bullied by guys bigger than you, think of it this way, its either you or him, everyone has a weakness and sometimes you may have to fight a little dirty, but its better than being tormented day after day.

I would have too disagree with CraigL, if you were to go after these fools you could be asking for more than you can handle. They obviously work as a team so your automatically out numbered, and the way people are now a days they probably can't fight with fist but use other means such as knives or guns!!
I would recommend when in the area of the idiots carry a Jambox that hardly works filled with music from Cher in it! And don;t let them take it, give it too them!

Ok, i had several reasons to not go after him:
1-im not that strong
2im not that violent
3 i was worn out from playing my *** off in jazz band just a few minute before
4if i were to engage in a fight, i would automatically be suspended-no matter what(I hate this district)
5 i didnt want to miss history.  After all, i have to keep my teacher in shape, (hes just not very smart)

In several of the hand-to-hand combat courses that I took in the Marine Corps:"there is NO such thing as fighting dirty!" was stressed. Eyes, ears, nose and testacles are fair game.  8)

Sometimes even getting your ass kicked will mean being left alone. Taking self defense classes is always the best bet, i have a black belt in judo and various abilitys in karate in kick boxing. Size is rarely an issue and numbers can sometimes work in your favor, most people are just to dumb to understand how to use numbers to their advantage, and as soon as they encounter someone who knows how to counter that problem they again end up getting their asses kicked.
However Fret does have a good point about these days, people seem to not only want to use their fists but knives and guns, which can be a problem, and if your not trained in defending yourself against them, then your screwed basically. And just so you know, i am not someone who goes around starting fights because i am, and i will usually try to avoid any form of physical confrontation where possible, and i will never hit someone first. But there are some cases where words and just ignoring a person doesnt work
