Driving Simulator! Is it a dream?

Postby KD_VB_FS » Wed Feb 25, 2004 1:24 pm

Hi everyone,
All these years of fight in the incredible Flight Simulator series and i'm still wondering when will MS START thinking of a "Driving Simulator" series!

Since they have the resources to render the whole world accurately why not trying to render a single interstate road for example! without the racing or the time pressure! Just sit in a real-world car with accurate physics just like FS and drive all the way to another city, like you do in the real world, including stops for refueling, dinner, or even sightseeing!!! 8)

I'm sure this sort of games is really a rare one, but that's exactly what's gonna make this game worthy.

Just imagine: the great graphics of "NFS Underground", the weather and realism of FS, all combined together in a wonderful 'As Real As It Gets' Driving Simulator!

What do u think about this?

It can be done within the existing FS "world" to a large extent.

On the other hand, you'd really start getting complaints when "xxx intersection isn't really modelled correctly, since the signage isn't that way!"

Or..  That store is vacant!

Ofc ourse, there is an active community doing add ons for some of the more popular racing sims...:)

Something like that might be a great way to help kids who are going to be driving soon learn the rules of the road.  Also include tutorials on basic maintenance like changing tires, checking oil, safety etc.
Add some challenges like driving through heavy rain or snow and ice.  Sounds like a great idea to me!

[quote] why not just get in a car and drive?
Flying is expensive, so a simulator is a cheap alternative but driving for the sake of it on a compter seems kinda boring to me especially if you intend to follow the rules.

Yea, though our country transits through the international airspace of death, we shall fear no evil, for You are with us, Your fighter and your bomber, they comfort us.

driving sim for teaching purposes? no! a good driving teacher and driving twenty hours with him plus a driving security training after you have received your license should be enough. ::)

You guys are right!  No kid is going to want to learn to drive on a simulator!  I probably wouldn't have either (30 years ago!)  It was just a thought!

If I want to drive, i'll hop in my car, and it's not like I drive much for fun anyway.

I have to agree. I believe a proper driving sim was tried out by some UK driving schools a few years ago. It seems to have disappeared without trace & I heard nothing more of it. Proper driving instruction is affordable for most people & is by far the best method. IMHO

Personally I hate driving now & only use my car to get from A to B. I would much prefer to use public transport if it was reliable & not so expensive.

H:  Blower Bentleys around Brooklands are NOT considered "public transportation".
