While we are on the subject of dC-3/C-47's take a look at this one: :D

I would give my left arm to own this one (I don't use it for anything except......  ::)).  It would be a trip in itself to land the monster. :o
Yea, though our country transits through the international airspace of death, we shall fear no evil, for You are with us, Your fighter and your bomber, they comfort us.

And the C47 was also credited for taking down a Zero!!!
I'm still waiting for someone to make a DC3 on floats for the Sim!! (hint!)  ;D
I have a book titled: The Legendary DC3, by Carrol V Glines and Wendell F. Moseley that tells the story of the Zero downing and many other amazing feats that this aircraft has accomplished. One of my favorites is the "Donkey drops" in Asia. Where the used a C47 to parachute donkeys too troops to use to cross the mountainess terrain. ;D Especially the part of lighting the fire on the ass of a ass to get it to jump!! ;D ;D ;D

The only military aircraft I can think of likely to match this is the C-130 Hercules. Another transport & the natural replacement for the C-47. The C-130A joined the U.S. Air Force inventory in December 1956. Almost 50 years old & still in production.
The B52 can join that list of longevity, although not as versatile as the other two.

re:the C46/DC3
Still in use in the Columbian military with turbine engines mounted.

Don't forget the AC47! ;D
.....so I loaded up the plane and moved to Middle-EEEE..........OIL..that is......
