??? ??? ??? ??? ???

Silver Fox.  What do call someone who acquired, obtained, got ideas, developed, etc., of something and profitted from it. What was that all about the Linux case with Microsoft? No matter how you cut it, the fact was that Yamamoto found something good about, or something bad about US aircraft design and used it to help with the premeditated, clandestine bombing of Pear Harbor, Remember Pearl Harbor. And why would the US manufacture the A6Ms which were effective against the Buffalos but did not do so well with the F6Fs, F4Us and the P38s. Of course this is moot now. Japan lost the war.

Bubblehead. This is what you said in your previous reply.
Remember the Japanese ZEROs? It was designed in the US.

It is untrue & Admiral Yamamoto had nothing to do with the design of the Zero. It was designed by an experienced & well established team at the Mitsubishi aircraft factory to meet an Imperial Navy specification.

The truth of the matter is that the Western powers had badly underestimated Japan's technological ability for many years prior to WWII. This seems to be just as true today if your views are anything to go by. ::)
Japan has a long naval aviation tradition & like the Luftwaffe in Spain their pilots had plenty of combat experience in China. http://www.users.bigpond.com/pacificwar/USJapNavAir.html

Both sides had ample opportunity to see the design philosophy of the other side. The Japanese initially took the lesson to heart and the US didn't.

I don't call that espionage, I call it intelligent on the part of the Japanese.

The US military was woefully unprepared for WWII, almost criminal when you consider that in Europe the war had raged for 2 years and in the Pacific Japanese expansionism had been evident far longer than that. Many US types had seen combat and were found wanting, but the US military had taken only baby-steps to correct the situation.

As for the attack on Pearl Harbor...it was pre-meditated of course. Who could claim otherwise? It was also scheduled to start after the declaration of war was delivered in Washington. If the plan had worked, US territory would not have been violated until after the delivery of the declaration.

There was, of course, nothing clandestine about the bombing of Pearl Harbor. A clandestine attack bomber didn't exist until the advent of the F-117. :)

All good designers are well aware of what their competitors are up to. That's if they're any good at their job of course. ;)

All right, all right: to those of you that read that post: I mean't it in the way that the war is over; it doesn't matter, don't get so worked up over nothing.

Yea, though our country transits through the international airspace of death, we shall fear no evil, for You are with us, Your fighter and your bomber, they comfort us.
