I thought they were ours, wern't they built by Westland?
I heard about the hellfire problem, aparently a grill was removed from the intakes to reduce weight and now debris from missile is taken into the engines  ::)

This reminds me of a problem with the airstairs on the Beagle Basset. These were built at Shoreham & I knew a lot of the guys that worked on them. The airstairs always had been a tad troublesome but the Queen's Flight had more problems with them than the rest of the customers put together. All became clear when they finally brought one back to Shoreham to check it out. The thing was so highly polished it almost blinded you to look at it. :o

One of the mechanics soon figured out the cause of problem. He went round with an oilcan & squirted oil all over the highly polished chrome on the stair jacks. ;D

PS. The Beagle 206 was basically a good aircraft. By the time they had added all the stuff the Ministry asked for to make it into the military Basset it came out at twice the weight & twice the price. It never was much use for anything. ::)

Mr. Pippin and Mr. Hagar:

I hate to differ with both of you but when Admiral Yamamoto was in the United States,  he and his sneaky cohorts were taken on a tour of the US aircraft industry and that's where they developed the designed idea for the Zero. Just like most of the modern technology we have today gentlemen, they were designed in the US but developed in Japan. Japan even stole the design for the car radiator overflow. Wake up gentlemen.

I usually don't give a rat's arse about military aircrafts, since that business is so infected with politics/bribes and other a** licking antics.

But please...Airbus is NOT french. It's a consortium formed by many companies/ countries. They just happen to operate under french regulations.

And believe me, most airlines DOES want Airbus nowadays  ;)

A memorable quote from the article above, regarding market share:

"The European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company, which owns 80 per cent of Airbus, has said it expects to stay ahead of Boeing for the next six to eight years.

But you all know I prefer the Boeing 737NG  ;D

Yamamoto may have decided what he wanted in a new Naval Fighter after visiting the US...doesn't mean he stole the idea from the US.

Take a look at what the US was developing...you see a Zero anywhere?

No.

What you see is some pudgy, overweight, underpowered, underarmed carrier planes. Look at the Brewster Buffalo...not even close to a match for the A6M2...more like a flying coffin for it's pilots. :(

If the US had designed the Zero it would have been equipped to face it, not shocked at it's capabilities. The simple fact is that the design philosophy was vastly different between the US and Imperial Japan...and the US won the toss.

From what I can tell, the Britt AH-64's are either built under licence or under loan to them, from the sites I've been to it isn't clear. ::)

if you mean the british armys apaches, they are built under license. basically we get to modify them as we need, apart from the basic airframe, the rest is differant from the US apache, the key thing being the engines.
As for airlines wanting airbus more than boeing, when youu get an offer of buy two get one free, what do you expect. Just remember the 777 is still the best selling plane in that area, and that includes the A340 all variants. and once the 7E7 comes around expect it to knock airbus right down, they have no answer to it right now, and its a critical market area that is getting old. A300 and 767. the 7E7 will be in it alone. ching-ching LOL:)

airlines dont care how a plane looks, its all about operational costs, the 7E7 is predicted to be the most efficient plane flying. Personally i think it looks really cool, and the interior even nicer:)

This thread seems to be wandering off-topic but don't blame me this time. ::)

When it all comes down to it business is business. Competition is good for any industry & the customer. I'm sure that having Airbus as a serious competitor has at least made the people at Boeing pull their socks up. They'd had it their own way for far too long & become complacent. This can be downright dangerous.
