GMax to 3ds

I know I haven't been around here for a while but I need a little help with another game.
I have recently been making "Mods" for GTA3 and have begun my newest project of making a short "Italian Job" style movie (Now for the relavant part). I have been having trouble transporting the cars around and have exported a GTA Model file into 3ds format and edited it in GMax but I cant get it back again. I am having the same trouble making somewhere for the scene in the sewer with the mini's escaping the cops.
Basically to sum it all up. Is there any way of converting gmax to 3ds format so I can turn that into a GTA model?

EDIT: It doesn't have to be .3ds, it could also be .bin or .x

From the FFDS Tutorials Section:

It has been asked several times how to export gmax files into other formats. You may want to add this to your resources.

A source for the md3 exporter without the need to download Tempest.


Caveat - you may or not be able to export all features of your model.
