I suspect this was the whole motive behind 9/11. Terrible as that was the effects go much deeper. I really don't think the people behind it expected the destruction to be as complete as it turned out & this must have exceeded their wildest dreams. The immediate effect on the airline industry was disastrous but although some companies fell by the wayside it was starting to recover. Recent events have combined to make its long-term survival much worse. I'm not exaggerating when I say that playing the game the way these people planned is the most serious threat I've seen to our way of life during my lifetime.

I think it turned out just as planned. Bin Laden as an Engineering degree so he knew that the two towers were going to fall down. Remember, it wasn't the first time he tried to knock them down.

Nuclear power plants are built to practically withstand anything short of a nuclear explosion. I have seen video footage of them testing a section of wall thats used on nuclear power plants. What they did was fly a plane into it at 600mph. The plane atomised completely apart from the wingtips that went either side of the wall. 1lb of C4 won't make a dent. ;)

True maybe not a perfect scenerio but as with all structures, those power plants have there weak points also. And don't forget that the Trade Center Towers were designed too withstand a airplane collision! The heat and fire is what brought them down!!
And as stated earlier these people are not stupid! They can if they wanted too figure out a way to find the weak point in a power plant. If that wasn't a threat then you wouldn't see military jets patroling the skies around Nuclear Plants now would we?

I should think the weak point in a power station would be staight down one of the cooling towers. Take out those and it will over heat. At least causing them to shut the power station down. :P

This is what worries me. What do these fighters (I assume they're fighters) expect to do to prevent a terrorist attack? Shoot a civil airliner or light plane down if it does something unexpected? Even if it was in the hands of terrorists how could they be sure the wreckage wouldn't fall on a heavily populated area?

I consider that we in the UK run as much, if not more, risk of attack from these people than the US. We would be a softer target for one thing. However, I've seen no evidence of increased military presence in our skies or anywhere else. I really think this is going over the top in a big way.

That is what I was refering too.
And as far as your other post I'll have too agree with Hagar.
I think these bastards got more than they bargined for when the Towers fell. I really don't think Osama knew they would topple, that was like a bonus added to his plan.
The icing on the cake so to say, and today he still reaps the satisfaction of watching the world fear him and his followers!

I don't think we're a soft target. We've been fighting terrorism for decades with the IRA so our security forces are much better experianced than those over the pond. I think if anything the USA is the softer target amongst us. All these added security measures and old women can still get through with stun guns. :o

No. With an engineering degree Bin Laden would have knowen exactly what the effects would be on two aircraft plowing into the WTC. Even I know that steel buckles when under intense heat. Basically there was no way it was going to end up differently on 9/11. And again let me remind you that he had tried before to knock those towers down. But then it was parking a truck full of explosives under one and hoping it would fall into the other one. Believe me, it was all in the plan to knock the towers down.

Trust me, worries me too.
I've read many times stories where GA pilots unknownly fly in to restricted airspace and then are escorted too the ground by our own military!
Same with these Presidential TFR's (temp. flight restictions) Most of the time the FAA won't post them until a few hours before they go into effect and allot of GA pilots don't always have the needed resources in short notice to know where they are.
I think it might be neat getting a F16 escort :)
But what scares me is when (not if) is it going to happen, the time that the trigger happy pilot cannot make contact with the GA pilot due to radio problems or what have you and decides to enforce his duty to eliminate the "threat".

This is what worries be about the next time a plane is hijacked with the terrorists planning on negotiations. My fear is that no government is going to give them time to speak before blowing them out the air.

getting into the cockpit once the door is closed is almost impossible without some form of explosive to help, which they arnt going to get on board easily.
As for Planes being shot down, only the president can give final approval to a pilot to shoot down a plane, so no worry about trigger happy pilots. I dont know the ruling in that case though for GA pilots.

Why worry about the general public. They have got the government and security agencys crapping themselves anytime a person with a name that sounds like it is from the middle east, apppears on a passenger list it seems. And thats the case for both sides of the pond.
The public doesnt have to be fearful of flying when their flight aint going anywhere as it is.
Side note i dont know if the reports been shown but they are now saying that they think a chemical attack on-board an aircraft could happen, and there is no way currently to stop this once its happend. Only way to prevent it is to cancel specific flights. i will dig out the link for y'all

You don't seem to understand!
The Government is constently saying "go about your daily routines, fly, buy,go to work so we can take your money, blah blah blah"
And then turn right around and start putting out all these warnings!!!!

It is the same as giving a child a piece of candy, then taking it away as soon as he tries to put it in his mouth!

Their feeble attempts of making people feel safe, are washed away by their own doings. It is a oxy moron to say the least!!!

That is why I say the terrorist have won!! And the Governments of the world are upping the terrorist's score by putting more fear in people by constintly issuing these repetitive warnings.
If there is a threat the Government should take care of it!
But the first thing they do is go straight to the press who then will blow it out of proportion even more!!!
There is no wonder why people live in fear, they are confused by the message!
I myself would love to have a terrorist come up and threaten me!!! Of course though,I'll be the one going to jail because of what I would do to him/her, but that is a seperate topic not suitable for this forum:)

Some whitehouse guy says that there was something with bioweapons....

can someone run to the whitehouse and remove that 10 sq meters plate which is blocking their vision on reality.

the biggest bioweapon thereat at the moment in the US is just around the corner in those 'beauty farms'. Botox wrinkle removal, they are injecting the same stuff they are scared about in their faces to get rid of their wrinkles at an age of 40
