one airport i will give its due for security in America is Detroit, or at least the amazing new Mcnamara terminal. on arrival from international you get the usual border check, once in you pick up your bags and goto customs, they make you go through a scanner and put your bag through a Quick X-ray scan. Then when you are through there you go onto another screening, this time the Bags are checked more thoroughly, and your put through another metal detector i am guessing more sensitive than the first. After this your allowed into the main terminal. While its a little strange that your being scanned after a flight, its good for the fact all those on onward flights are pretty much clean. This process took all of 10 minutes from being in the middle of a full DC10 load of passengers, anything that should have been picked up was and appropriate action taken, and the soldiers and screeners were also very relaxed and one of them even making fashion tips and jokes with us. I think alot of airports need to study this system and look at integrating it into their main security checks. There would be alot of people shall we say less annoyed with security, and all things that shouldnt be on a flight wouldnt be.
