The Mile Runs.

Postby Katahu » Sun Jan 18, 2004 2:39 pm

I have been running 3 miles everyday for the last half month so that I can stay in shape.

I always run around a block that has a perimeter of 3 miles in total. It would take me about 15 minutes if I didn't have to walk across some small streets with heavy traffic.

Right now, I'm getting use to it since I can now run up to 1.5 miles whithout getting tired and in almost under 7 minutes. I still run a lot the rest of the way.

How many miles do you like to run?

I know someone who is crazy enough to run 14 miles and still love it. ::)

i try to run at least 1 mile every 2 days when i am at local sports fields, because of bad knees i can no longer run 3:58 min miles. but its enough to keep me fit. I used to do 5 to 10 mile runs every day. Might try to work back to that one day.

I run about 15 miles a week in summer (5 X 3), but it's winter here now and too damn cold and wet ::)

I try to run around 2 miles a day...even though it always ends up being about 2 miles a week! 8)

Shoveling/yardwork tends to keep me in shape though.

I used to do between 5 and 10 miles a day every day, but a series of injuries put a stop to doing half-marathons as a hobby for a while.
These days I try and do a couple of miles a day, and at least half an hour of weights. I also do lots of weird stretching exercises to keep me flexible for climbing (but with the current weather the closest I get to climbing is dragging a bag full of books and homework up 4 flights of stairs ::))

Depends on who or what is chasing me ;D ;D

Seriously though I have never been too much into running but I do like mountain biking. I would ride a average of 10mi a day but my knees are having a hard time holding up.
No previous sporting injury that I can think of so I guess it must just be age :'(
Most of the time I would prefer to just ride a flat spot but there are none where I live!! If I'm riding a area with low or no grades I can do 20 + miles at a time. If I can quit smoking I would probably be able to double that amount ;)

If necessary I run for the bus and/or the toilet.  I get most of my excercise from stress and maintain a resting heartbeat of 90-110 whilst at work.  I get most of my upperbody work out from performing CPR which on average I get to do once per week.

In the summer I cycle to work (5 miles) which wouldn't take as long if I didn't insist on regular smoke breaks.

On a health scale of 1-10 where 10 is the healthiest possible I rate myself at -5.  My argument is that all my bad habits may well knock some years off my life but they are the crap ones at the wrong end anyway. ;)

Never been into all this running & exercise myself. I've always been physically fit & prefer walking to running.

;D

I have read articles about the effects of exercise. And while it is suppose to be good for you if done in the wrong way can cause serious injury or long lasting health issues.
Like I said i like bike riding but even that can cause some severe problems, ex. reproductive harm. Not that I see myself reproducing anytime soon :) (I hear the applause)
So they are now making seats designed for this matter to relive pressure on certain points of the body, (no pun intended).
As for jogging I can see that the shock of your feet slamming the ground like that for any length of time doing damage.
So even though exercise is good for you it still can have its own major side effects. If not done properly.

Al  a balancing act I think. A combination of running and swimming is probably the best way. And make sure you have a good pair of running shoes...

I can cycle for ever, but never been much of a runner. My partner Pamela runs about 4 miles most days and has done the odd half marathon in the last few years. She is quite mad.

Not much of a runner either...Bad knees.  In the summer I like to swim.  But it being winter here, I just try to eat right with all the pools closed.

Apparently not, on the downhill sections the airflow is all wrong, can blow the fag out of your mouth, down your top and then when it reaches those lovely lycra cycling shorts..... Well lets just say lycra goes-up rather well ;D ;D ;D
Hey Will, we've just found a great new contraceptive technique for you ;) ;D

An old workmate of mine used to smoke his pipe while riding his motorbike. The effect was rather like a blowlamp with sparks flying everywhere. Very spectacular at night & quite a sight to behold. He got through an amazing amount of pipes in a very short time. :o ;D
