I think PC is like any other thing say for example religion or politics or the like. People can take it or leave it.
Alas there are many twits out there who feel it is necessary to ram this sort of thing down our throats, and they create an anti-camp by their own efforts
I've suffered racial prejudice in a number of countries (it took me a while to find out that was just how Aussies talked ), and where I currently live I suffer prejudice because I'm foreign. Personally I don't give a monkeys, if people want to be so narrow minded they can stare through a keyhole with both eyes simultaneously then let them get on with it! These twits still don't realise I understand everything they say about me
And I have to agree with Pete, that a lot of the expressions originally came about to help prevent prejudice, my mum is in a wheelchair these days, one of my cousins has Downs Syndrome, and frankly anyone being rude about them is taking their face home in a doggy-bag. I believe I'm still barred from McDonalds in Windsor High Street for teaching a lesson (try beating manners into a seriously thick skull with your fists, it does your fingers in completely ) to two morons who were taking the mickey out of some Downs kids in there. And I was chucked out! So children, don't eat at McPrejudiced

No, I was quite serious.  It's ridiculous how Politically Correct this country has become.  Of course I feel that resepct should be given to every culture of every race and I never go out of my way to make remarks about a certain ethnicity.  That is simply common sense, not political correctness.

However, being an extremely patriotic person, it kills me to see the ACLU leading a revolution against the principles in which this country was founded upon.

Some things just go a little bit too far.  An example being a debate against racial profiling.  It's not politically incorrect to single out a black person for a random search-- the fact that african americans make up a large percentage of crime in the US doesn't make that "Un PC", it's makes it statistically rational.  As far as searching 80 year old Irish women at the airport...why?  We should be searching ANYONE that has even a fraction of a Middle Eastern descent-- one of my counsin's from Estonia wasn't one of the people who decided to blow up the World Trade Center one day.

Again, I am respectful, but to those who deserve it.  At the same time, I'm honest and fair...something this government should be, and in a decade marked by Terrorism that is something this country needs to be.  When it comes to the security of our nation, I could care less who's feeling get hurt.  "OH THE TYRANNY!  YOU HAVE TO PUT SOME INK ON YOUR FINGER IF YOU'RE TRAVELLING INTO THE UNITED STATES!  CALL THE ACLU!"

Being politically conservative is the reason PC is necessary?  OR is PC applicable ONLY to political conservatives?

Respectfully, many times the first people that need to practice restraint and correctness are the very people that espouse and cry for PC and fairness.

Common sense and respect should NOT be confused with political correctness.

Are there extremists - on both sides?  Yes - and I suggest that these are equally responsible for the sad state of affairs - not being able to hold a rational discussion on issues, without "killing the messenger".

Snow Cone is a none-pc word. You ask for a snow cone, even though it's never made of snow. Just crushed ice.

Flavored Ice may be a better name, but it just sounds rediculous and I'm never willing to use it.

When we play online, we ALWAYS [no matter what] use words that are completely none-PC. Words like:

Newbie - Noob
Kick out
Vulcher

and so on.

And we all use these words without thinking because everyone else says it.

I always use the word "Wasup" or "Sup" whenever I meet one of my cousins or friends. My uncle always says "Wasup" to me everytime he talks to me. If I meet a stranger, I would always say "Hi" in a near-dull manner.

Whenever we talk to our friends, we often end the conversion with "Peace out, man".

If someone is acting b*tchy or is complainting too much, we [here in Miami, Florida] would normally say "That guy is just tripping" or "That guy yaps too much" and such.

I have spent almost my entire life here in Miami and I have only seen a few individuals so far who are trying to make things PC. All the other people, including me, just don't give a d*mn about PC. We think it stinks.

Katahu. I'm not sure you know what political correctness is. You seem to have some hang-up about something named Snow Cones but as I'm not familiar with this confection I don't know if there is a problem with it or not. It's possible that this might appear offensive to somebody but for the life of me I can't think why.

Your other examples are purely words used by young people & I see nothing offensive in Wassup or 'Sup at all.

If you go back & read Craig's original post in this thread you might understand what all this is about.

A SnoCone is nothing but crushed ice with a colored flavoring, cherry, blueberry ( the ultimate stain!)
That stuff will stain your lips red (blue) and won't come off!!!!
I went to a doctors appointment once a day after eating a blueberry flavored one and you could imagine the questions I got when they saw my lips! I had the flu at the same time so I looked dead!!
A slush puppy is exactly that slush, you drink those, a SnoCone you have to eat unless you wait for it to melt.

So sorry Hagar a SnoCone is ice cream, minus the cream!
