As eveyone can tell my spelling isn't great, not bad but could use some work! I can blame some on typos just because i don't have any typing experiance. I'm self taught. As a matter of fact I've only owned a computer for a little over a year! So I notice my typing skills improving slightly.
But one thing I have noticed is my ability to understand and learn to spell new words everyday. I'm 35 now and I'm still learning the English language, and I owe most of it to these forums. When someone uses a word I have never heard or don't know the meaning of, I grab the dictionary to check it out. So not only are these forums fun but educational as well!! And English isn't the only language i'm learning on a daily basis but words and phrases for other counties.
Like the newest word which I have been using uncontrolably "BIBBLE" ,  What is it? and What does it mean?
I just like the sound of it :) I know a "bibler" is someone who drinks allot, I think?

The language that I find the hardest to learn and understand is this "computer lingo", all the abriviations, LOL, LMAO, IMHO etc.!
And the ones who spell with ever other LeTtEr like that! or spell words like "was" - "wuz" or "because"- "becuz" .
Those are obviously not typo's so what is with spelling like that? I would prefer to try and read something with the word being misspelled by accident than on purpose!!  ;)

Ist mein Deustch gut?

Na ja...

Compaired to English, German is sensible. It might be the ugliest language in the world (sorry silent) but as far as spelling goes its great. Cause everything is spelt as it is said. Which means no silent letters.

you're right. german is one of the ugliest and most complicated languages in the world (along with russian).

One thing I dislike about German though is the fact that they have three different words for words like "the", "a" and "mine".

"the" - "der" "die" "das"
"a" - "ein" "eine",etc...
"mine" - "mein" "meine" "meins"

I have always wanted to learn German, because my family tree sprouts off from Germany.
In High School (1983) I wanted to take a course in German Language but my Guidance counselor talked my parents out of it claiming that it would be to hard for me. So Instead I took college level calculus!!
Of course though this was the same  counselor that told me that Computers were not a good choice for a career, and that they weren't going anywhere!!!!
I'm glad my Dad didn't listen to him when he bought his share of M$ stock! ;)
So I ended up becoming a cabinet maker pulling in a whopping 21K a year compared to a nice six digit income.
Kids never listen to your Guidence counselor. They will never point you in the right direction of a job that makes more than they do!  ;D

I hope no-one takes my statement the wrong way, but the point I would like to make is that I apparently had a councelor who was either narrow minded or just didn't personally belive that computers would amount to what they are and what need there is for them today.
You should always listen to your teachers, councelors, parents etc, but don't live by thier words alone but use them as advise to make your own decisions, after all it is your life and you should do with it as you please, and never let anyone negitively influence your dreams of who or what you become!

First, we were talking about how odd any language is. Now, we talking about counselors. ::)

Anyways,

Back in school, I had a great counselor. She always motivated me that I have great talents and that I am capable of doing anything.

She also advised me that my future is my future and the I have total control over it and no one else. We decide our own future, no one else has the right to decide it for you.

I didn't have time [at all] to learn German in school. So instead, I went to the internet and used the online dictionary that translates English to German and so on. I also went to my school library to borrow some books on the German language.

I have never taken German class, yet I have learned how to speak some of it on my own. I have never taken any computer classes in my entire life, yet I now have almost full knowledge of it by learning on my own over the years of my life by doing nothing but sitting in front of a cumputer all day [like I'm doing now]. ;D

I am even trying to learn the basic scripting language of Java. I already know one or two of the basics.

This tends to happen when I get involved in a thread - as you might have noticed. As this is my topic anyway, feel free to wander off-topic if you wish. Don't mind me. LOL ;)
