I have been thinking on this for awhile, and I was wondering what any of you thought.
My idea is this. A top notch airforce pilot crashes a high-priced military aircraft (probably something like an F-14 or F-22) during an operation in Afghanistan or somewheres. He is subsequently given a dishonorable discharge after an investigation proves he fouled up and could have easily saved the aircraft. Since he has no other job skills aside from flying an aircraft, and since no respectable airline would hire him he starts a small air shipping company in Alaska.
On one of his hops, he finds that his cargo is none other than the head of the Reno Air Racing division (or whatever) and is obviously impressed. During the flight, a freak storm springs up and his pilot skills are put to the test. After seeing a miraculous recovery by the pilot, the CEO of Reno Air Racing (or whatever) asks if our hero will come fly in the competitions.
Stories could spring from this platform like wildfire. I already have four or five episodes mapped out, and could come up with scores more if I thought about it for a little.
It would rely on today's amazing television FX, specifically in the area of really amazing flight videos. After all, if we can make incredible flight visuals just using FS and freeware stuff, imagine what could be done with a little money and time!
The show wouldn't just focus on the Reno Air Races, as it would severly limit the series. But it could focus on aviation in general, and done with a certain style and realism that would impress all the hardcore flight fanatics out there. It seems to me there would be a market for this kind of stuff, but I may be off my rocker.
Any thoughts?
