Two F-16 lost...

Postby Mr. Bones » Tue Dec 09, 2003 2:05 pm

today, two F-16's from the BAF (Belgian Air Force) crashed during a "Forward Air Controller" mission guided by ATC. the two Falcons hit each other at very low altitude... nobody knows how this could happen. it was very clear weather and like i said, the mission was guided by controllers. one pilot could eject and survived (he's in shock right now), the other one died during the crash  :(

the BAF uses the F-16 (A and B models) for 25 years now and we lost 35 of them in crashes (not a single one in real combat ops)

Very sad news, it could of been worse though. Both pilots could of easily died.
Lets hope the surviving pilot makes a full recovery.

Isn't 35 quite a lot for 25 years?

When I lived in Arizona I didn't live too far from Luke AFB and I remember quite a few incidents involving F-16's, it seemed like they were crashing them things left and right.
Still no linked images allowed around here Paz! Naughty...

sad loss
But i must say, i am sure i have heard of quite a few incidents with the F-16's that have been caused by close formation or close fly passes. Maybe its the  fact its such an unstable aircraft thats causing these things to happen, i mean even the smallest maneuver would mean quite a change in altitude and or direction, and with inexperienced that could be the main factor. Then again maybe i am wrong and its just really bad luck on the part of the F16
