There are many lawyers, specialist doctors, accountants, etc earning well in excess of $1m/year just doing their job. They've been lucky by & large - time has favoured them well. It's not at all unusual. I have a brother in law lawyer earning at least $3m/year at age 38 - if it was 20 years ago he would have been earning the equivalent of 50k.

Of course we are talking run of the mill jobs here - not one offs like sports stars, music stars, business people, etc.

Hi,

I think that the F-18 landing on a US Navy boat is pretty difficult.

Um, can I be his friend?  :)

In reality, politics is an extremely poor paying profession.  Even after the perks, the Pres still makes less than 1 million per year.  That may be why we have such a hard time getting things right.  No one in his right mind would want the job.

Whats a strom crab and why is fishing for them so dangerous?

How about Richard Branson, he started of selling records door to door and now he owns a mobile comunications company, an airline, a soft drinks company, a railway company, and a record store chain 8)

Craig. I don't think Branson is in the record business now. He might still own the recording company.

Salary is no indication of risk, dedication or responsibility. Some of the toughest & most dangerous jobs are done by volunteers for expenses only. As has been pointed out, so-called sportsmen, actors & recording artistes can be rewarded out of all proportion to what they actually do.

Only when successful will sportsmen get lots of money.  They don't get paid more than they bring into the club or else the club goes into debt, like a load of clubs are in the UK.  Leeds United for example are over

We have alot of Company CEO's who are on salaries of 1 and 2 million. But the real money is in the so called 'performance bonuses'. They can be in the 10's of millions.

In the paper the other day, there was a story about a CEO of a relatively well known Insurance Co that just received a bonus of 13 million. The story was about the fact that he got this at a time when they are cost cutting by retrenching workers and also lifting premiums to cover last years losses. I have no clue as to what they base their 'performance bonuses' on. Obviously not 'performance'!!

The contracts that these 'professional managers' have are extremely biased and airtight, it would seem.  >:(

I agree massively with that.  It is however being cracked down on in the UK.  It is a big problem.

hyvry theres no way to justify how much football players get in this country, especially when most of them act like a bunch of babies when asked to do something on a day off.
High paying job, anyone on the board of United airlines. Anyone want to guess why they are struggling with funds and in chapter11? their top pilots wernt much better.
NFL players get paid ridiculous amounts to, but they do earn it a little more than most sportsmen and women, with the amount of work and hits they have to take in a game

I could be wrong but believe that as a top barrister & QC, Cherie Blair is paid far more than her husband Tony. Make of that what you will.

PS. A surprising number of politicians come from the legal profession. You need no qualifications to be a politician. As the old adage goes - politician is the highest paid unskilled job in the world. ::)
