Hey, what about The Longest Day?

It may not be about aerial combat, but it's good.

It was made at the time when Technecolor was common for movies. However, the producers deciced to make this movie black and white to give it that vintage feel.

This movie is about a soilder named Audy Murphey who became one of the most decorated war heroes of all time.

I think you're getting a tad mixed up Katahu. The Longest Day (1962) is indeed an exellent film with an all-star cast about the D-Day Normandy invasion. As I remember it was in full Technicolor.

Audie Murphy was an actor, poet & real-life war hero who became the most decorated US combat soldier in WWII. His most popular film was his own biography To Hell & Back (1955) in which he played himself. http://www.audiemurphy.com/
This is Audie Murphy's life story. At the tender age of 12, he becomes the head of the family after his father deserts them. He joins the army at the age of 18 and through the course of the war is decorated for valor nine times thus becoming the most decorated combat soldier in World War II. Audie does one of the bravest acts any soldier ever did during the war. He climbs aboard a burning tank destroyer and single handedly keeps the enemy from advancing on his position. He spends almost an hour on top of the tank destroyer until his ammunition is exhausted. Seconds later after climbing off the tank destroyer, it explodes. For this action, Audie receives the Medal of Honor

PS. A Bridge Too Far (1977) is another well-made film with an all-star cast, directed by Richard Attenborough. This time about 'Operation Market Garden', the daring but unsuccessful attempt by the 1st Airborne Division to capture the bridge at Arnhem in Holland.

PS. Corrected.

Well Hagar pal, my video copy of the Longest Day is in B&W, but I have seen a colour version on TV before.
A Bridge Too Far is my favourite war movie. Hagar pal, I'm sure Pegasus Bridge was a D-Day objetive, not a Market Garden objetive.
Usless Warbird trivia. Spitfire MkIX MH434 features in both of these films. ;)

I was going to say, operation Pegasus was a gliderbourne assult on a bridge in normandy that took place on june 6th 1944. I find it unlikely that they would have called the arnhem bridge "Pegasus" aswell.

Ooops. Sorry guys. Of course you're quite correct. :-[
You might have noticed I tend to get carried away sometimes & get my facts ever so slightly mixed up. It's my age you know. At least, that's my excuse & I'm sticking to it. You will be like it one day. :P ??? ;)

PS. The Longest Day was filmed in B&W. I'm sure this is the one Katahu is referring to. Audie Murphy is not on the cast list. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/6304935765/ref=pm_dp_ln_v_7/103-8523712-5981428?v=glance&s=video&vi=contents

Does this mean they refilmed it in colour or simply coloured it in?

I seem to remember seeing a B&W longest day. But it was a long time ago and when I saw the colour version I put the B&W one down as being watched on a B&W telly...

Now you've got me really confused. ???

I'm sure I've seen it in colour too. Maybe they originally filmed it in colour but decided to show it in B&W. I'm sure that would be easier to do than colour the whole thing afterwards. This is where I got my info. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/6304935765/103-8523712-5981428?v=glance
