I seem to remember reading somewhere that hamburgers were originally made from ham. Or maybe I imagined it. I have problems separating fact from fiction these days. ::) ???
Not sure about the frankfurters though. Maybe made from something, animal or mineral in origin, named Frank. ??? ;)

PS. I think they were originally called Frankfurter sausages. The sausage part of the name became redundant over time.


Frank n a member of a West Germanic people who conquered Gaul in the 4th century AD.
Apparantly they were wiped out in the 5th century AD as a result of the discovery of the sausage into which they formed part of the ingredients.
The sausage was called the Frankfurter.
The present Germans are unaware that they are consuming their ancestors.... ::)...!
