RAF Heiarchy

Postby Scorpiоn » Wed Oct 22, 2003 4:23 pm

Dunno if I spelled that right.  Anyway, I'm really excited now because I'm learning doing stuff! ::) I'm making a chart with all the organizational patterns of all the major air forces of World War II.  I finally know what III/ZG27 means!  Anyway, my book indicates that RAF structure was very flexible.  I would just like to confirm this here.

Typically - your lowest organised unit was the squadron, formed into wings, then Groups, and Commands...

However, you had special Flights, Operational Training Units (OTU), adn finally you had Hagar, which the RAF is still trying to figure out how he went through....

I must put this right immediately. Unfortunately, the RAF was denied my invaluable services. All my knowledge was gained in the ATC (the RAF cadet organisation.) I was all set for a promising career but suddenly changed tack & went for civil aviation instead. I'm a creature of impulse & it seemed a tad safer. Sorry to disappoint you ::) :P

Scorpion. You should find all you wish to know here.

Thank you Felix and Hagar for the info, but Hagar, the site says "under construction".  I guess I'll check later.

Hi Flight-Captain. Glad you're enjoying it. Whitey also took my advice to join & I don't think he regrets it. I think the ATC is a wonderful organisation & a great start for any anyone interested in aviation. Most RAF aircrew were former members. I was pleased to find from chatting to cadets at my local air display things haven't changed that much since my day. ;)

Hagar, I get some pictures of planes, a roundel, eagle, etc, etc.  But the actual meat of the page says:
The Command Structure of the Royal Air Force

This page is under construction and will be available soon.

Lazy, lazy programmers... ::) I'm a persistent one tho'!

Correct, but Incorrect

Postby Scorpiоn » Fri Oct 24, 2003 4:08 pm

Yes, but from there click on "Command Structure".  Unless you Britons are getting [more] special service than us! >:( ;D
