US States Rankings

Postby Smoke2much » Sat Oct 18, 2003 10:07 pm

States Ranked: Smartest to Dumbest

The smartest state in the union is Massachusetts.

The dumbest, for the second consecutive year, is New Mexico.

These are the findings of the Education State Rankings, a survey by organ Quitno Press of the public school systems in all 50 states. States were rated on a variety of factors based on how they compare to the national average. These included such positive attributes as per-pupil expenditures, public high school graduation rates, average class size, student reading and math proficiency, and pupil-teacher ratios. States received negative points for high drop-out rates and physical violence.

How does YOUR state rank?

We don't do it by state or county over here.  Every year the goverment releases a massive league table with every school in the country on it.  Totally pointless IMHO.  A good student will succeed despite a poor school and "You can lead a student to learning but you can't make him think."

Hey Fozzer   It's Fido, pay no attention to the new username, it's kind of like the wizard, in the "Wizard of Oz"  same little man, just hidden behind a different curtain. Glad to see you didn't lose your sense of humor in the big melt down.

I'm surprised that California isn't on the bottom. The land of fruits and nuts.
