Florida Marlins win at 4-3

Florida Marlins vs. San Francisco Giants

It was the last ining (11th, believe it) and the Giants had the upper hand at 3-2 against the Marlins.

However, 1st and 2nd base were filled by the Marlins (they were batting). One guy from the same team came up to bat. However, he has a reputation of good homeruns. So, the Giants let him pass (on purpose) to 1st base because they knew he would easily send the ball out of the stadium if they ever tried to strike him out. Thus, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd base were now completely filled by the Marlins.

The suspense was filling the entire air of Pro Player Stadium in Florida. Bases full, score 3-2, 2 outs for the Marlins, and one Marlin batter has the whole fate of the team in his hands. All he needs to do, is knock that ball to hell (or at least hit it far enough to tip the balance).

He hits, the ball flies to right field at low altitude but at high speed. The ball touches the floor and is caught by the right-fielder. As the batter runs to 1st base, the giant's right-fielder throws the ball to Home Base.

Before he managed to throw the ball, the runner that was in 3rd base had already made it (that makes 3-3, tie).  After he makes it to home, he turns around, drops to his knees, and signals the other runner (who was in 2nd base) to THROW himself to Home Base.

The runner was just 1 or 2 yards from the home plate. The Giant's catcher caught the ball (thrown by the right-fielder). However, it was too little too late for the catcher. The Marlin's runner dives head-first into home and completes the score. The Marlins finally tipped the balance of power in their favor.

As of October 3, 2003, the Marlins won at 4-3.

Me, my dad, my family, and rest of Miami went crazy as hell. It was the closest game I have ever seen. I'm not sure if any other game can get closer than this. :D :o

All of Pro Player Stadium was out of control. People shouting, chanting, dancing, cheering, and whistling as the Marlins took it all at the last possible moment.

Yee-ha.  I think baseball is the most boring thing ever invented but when the locals are in the playoffs (and there's beer) it suddenly gets interesting.  I caught most of the game a couple of days ago and the tail end of today's.  Great game.

PS - I have heard that we were wildcards the year we won the World Series.  Is that true?

How today's game went:

It's the start of the 9th ining and the Giants are up to bat. Current score is now 7-5 with the Marlins in the lead (during the 8th ining, it was tied 5-5).

Giant's first batter comes up and makes it to (i think) 2nd base.

Next batter comes. After 2 strikes, he manages to get the ball to right field (ALMOST making a foul). He advances to 1st base. Next batter comes, he gets hit by the ball (thrown by the Marlin's pitcher). he advances to 1st base. 1st and 2nd base are now full by the giant's. From here (I think) the very first runner makes it to home. Thus making it 7-6.

NOTE: Before the 2nd and 3rd batter, other batters had struck out twice.

The giant's fourth batter comes up. he hits the ball to left field.

The left fielder catches the ball (after it touches the ground) and throws it like a bullet at the Marlin's catcher. In the meantime, the giant's runner is dashing pass 3rd base and is almost to home plate.

But just like yesterday, it was too little too late for the Giants. The catcher caught the ball ahead of the runner. The 2 people accidentally collide into each other. Regardless of how strong the impact was, the catcher still mantains his grip on the ball, thus making the LOSE the game on the 3rd out.

The score then completes at 7-6 with Marlins winning the Division Series.

Correct me if I'm inaccurate. My mind was too excited to remember everything. ;D

(Rubs fingers in Mr. Burns style) Excellent.  Did you see the look on the runner's face as he knew he was out at home?  That's one for "the agony of defeat".

I think the left fielder was Jeff Conine.

My local pub has 10 televisions (God bless America), which, at that time, was about 2 for every patron.  Every one was tuned to the Marlins game.  When I asked whether one of them might be tuned to the UF/Miss game you would have thought I pulled out an assault weapon.  I convinced (promised to tip) the barmaid that men are capable of watching an infinite number of sporting events at one time and I was able to see my poor Gators lose a 12 point spread by 3.  As the gentleman next to me said, 'They'll be good next year'.

Now it's the Chicago Cubs against the Atlanta Braves.

Which ever one of these 2 wins will play against the Florida Marlins in the Play-Offs.

Which one of the 2 do you think the Marlins should play against during the Play-Offs?

My dad believes that the Marlins are better off playing against the Atlanta Braves. I asked him why. He then tells me that the Braves are easy for the Marlins to beat. He also added that since Sammy Sosa is a very good pitcher for the Cubs, he didn't want the Marlins to face Sosa. If they do face him, chances are that the Marlins might need some help.

Updates:

The Chicago Cubs have won against the Atlanta Braves at 5-1

Correction for my last post: Sammy Sosa is not a pitcher. He's a batter. That's even worse. ;D :o

However, my dad always tells me: "The game is never over until the 27th out (3 outs multiplied by 9 inings)." The Marlins have always pulled out a miracle right out of their @55es at the 2 inings of every game. For example: It looks as if they would lose at the start of the game. But when the last 2 innings comes around, they also managed to turn the tables in their favor. It's almost as if they are Destined to min the Division, Play Offs, and World Series.
