LovSan variant

Postby ozzy72 » Fri Aug 22, 2003 1:29 am

Well I finally got infected last night. There is a new version of the LovSan virus out there. It got past the patch and my firewall. It corrupted a number of files on my system, and I'm really p***ed off, I'm going to have to spend the whole morning fixing my machine by the looks of things.
I got this virus whilst either downloading from M$ (the flight simulators program, 5 parts, took a while!), or whilst playing online with Smoke2much.
Watch yourselves.

Pete my anti-virus is up-to-date. This is a new variant, it got in through a back door. It seems the culprit is the M$ patch, which lets it in!
Once in my system caught it. It only infected one file (which I've deleted), but for some reason it corrupted a load of other stuff! Now also deleted for safeties sake.
It looks like the M$ website is hosting the ****ing thing! I've sent them an email. I've also notified Will.
All I can say is thank goodness my anti-virus software updates every day for new viruses.

Ozzy. If what you say is true this is a tad worrying. Are you guys on WinXP? I understand this particular virus doesn't affect Win98/Me.

PS. Seems you're correct. This might interest you. http://asia.cnet.com/newstech/security/0,39001150,39146647,00.htm

Micros***! Thanks for the link Doug, bit of a case of closing the door after the horse has bolted, but there you go :'(
I'm running XP Pro, and I'm slowly getting the system back together. A couple of other people I know got it, but they didn't get the file corruption problem I did, so that might be entirely unrelated.
Its so annoying. Fortunately my anti-virus software could stop it. Ah well back to re-installing ::)

Cheers

Careful Craig. You might lose that shiny shoe - or break your leg.  ::) ;D

Foz. My local Inland Revenue office is still using Win95. Shame. ::)
