say there are 5 airplanes leaving a large airport every hour. That is a conservative estimate.

It's a very conservative estimate. I'm not quite sure of my facts but consider this. I read somewhere an aircraft lands at London (Heathrow) every 30 seconds during the day. Approximately the same amount are taking off. ::)

My uncle used to live on the approach to Heathrow. Even back in the 50s his back garden was an aircraft spotter's heaven LOL

Well, living not ten minutes away from RNAS Culdrose I get Sea king and Merlin helicopters buzzing around all day long. Some times there high sometimes they are very very low. We also get BAe Hawks of which four are based at Culdrose piloted by retired RAF pilots who now play the part of the enemy in excersises. So they fly low and fast... So yeah... We also get all the traffic heading to and from america in the mornings and evenings. Also the odd light aircraft flying in a straight line from somewhere to somewhere else!

Okay, lets say one aircraft a minute @ 660,000 pounds per would come out to 99,000 tons in the sky at any given moment!  Double that on the holidays!!!!

And it is all flying around over our heads.  That scares me. :-[

Most things coming in or out of Glasgow, lots of RN Seakings from Faslane, some CoastGuard S-61's, the odd Sea Harrier when a carrier docks at faslane and lots of Harriers, Tornados and Jaguars buzzing Faslane and transiting to low level training areas.

I live on the approach for KPBI and KLNA mainly Pipers, Cessnas, R-22s and some commercial jets fly over. Once in a while I see a NOAA P-3 fly over. Once a 757 with only one engine running flew over so low I could see the landing lights on the ground, It landed safely at KPBI about 10 minutes later.

I only get small aircraft, Cessnas, and Pipers.  I sometimes get 737s up about angels 30 out of Boston.  One time I got a C-17 over my house.  It was cool.

Well I live near RAAF Base Amberely and we have F-111'z fly over quite regularly.  Also we are under an domestic approach so 737's fly over quite reguarly.  Occaisonaly we get Caribou'z and Herc'z and when the singaporians are over we get the F-5'z.  When F-18'z are at amberley we get them as well.  Oh and ur usual helo'z and cessna'z and the like.

Underneath the downwind for 9L at KFLL........757,767,A320,A340etc. There's also a Cessna401, a Piper Cheiftain and a couple of Learjets that fly really low over my house when the wife is supposed to be sleeping! :D Would'nt know anything about that though, she just tells me about it......always seems to be while I'm working when it occurs!  ::)
.....so I loaded up the plane and moved to Middle-EEEE..........OIL..that is......

I live in the grossly overpriced enclave of south Palm Beach County, Florida.

We have a short airstrip (KBCT) that is suited for small GA but for some reason Learjets and Gulfstreams (I can't tell them apart) want to land here.  I guess they want to land close to the money.

So I see a lot of Cessnas and business jets.

Here's an almost live picture of KBCT:http://www4.passur.com/bct.html

I live and work close to YPPH Perth Int'l West Australia,so see 747,737 Airbus,Dash8,Metroliner,Beech,Cessna etc

Most interesting was a C2A Greyhound COD when there was a US carrier group of the coast. Man, when they say 'Greyhound' they mean it! That thing was GONE. Not too shabby for a prop plane!! :)

Almost daily F-16s, daily Bell 407, daily BO-105, odd Huey, Blackhawk or Cobra, Avro RJ-85, Caravans(they fly over like clockwork), the obligatory 737s, Airbus 320s, Md-90s, saw a DC-10 once, even Airforce 1(when Slick Willy was prez).

Also the almost monthly C-5 or C-130 resupplying/visiting the 174th FW.

The Lear is the little one the Gulfstream is the big one......Universal Jet also flys out of Boca, in Challengers......that's the medium one........ :o

I used to fly into Boca before they had a tower. Now that was crazy! Gulfstream IV's in the same pattern with Piper Cubs.....and a bunch of German and Swiss student pilots from Executive in between! It was every man  for himself! :o
