Your first flight sim

Postby Paz » Fri Aug 15, 2003 8:29 am

As I was flying around in FS2004, I started thinking about how far flight sims have come, I know this has probably been brought up in the past, but what was your first sim flying experience and on what system?

Mine was the original Gunship by Microprose on the Commodore 64.

It was FS98.  I have no idea what system I was running.  It was a long time ago and I got rid of it.  But for some reason I remember my first flight.  It was in Chicago, at Miegs.  I flew a C-172 around the city for a while using the keybroad.  Keybroad!  How primitive!  But since then I've bought all three of the CFS series, FS2000, and FS2002.

Something fishy on the C-64 which went broke very fast... had to do with IFR

after that:
Retalliator (286)
F-15 strike eagle 2(286) and 3(P60)
JET (funny program)
F-117 (P-600)

Microprose F-15 strike eagle 3 still is the best one of that series, i had the CD version which had a cool animated intro

Microsoft stuff in chronological order
FS5.1 (Pentium 60, first serious FS for me)
FS98 (Pentium 233/Voodoo 2, got that to a 100+FPS on mt Pentium 600 later on)
FS2000 (Pentiun 600/TNT2, whacky, slow and crashing too often)
FS2002 (AMD 1800XP/GF4Ti200, autogen and shine galore)
Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and [url=http://an24.uw.hu/]An-24RV[/ur

my first go with a simulator was on a full sized army lynx simulator at middle wallop, my dad was in charge of putting the thing together and testing it, and since i spent most of my summer holiday helping with it i got to have a go.

The year was 1987.  It was either FS1 or FS2 from what I've been able to figure out.

The system was on my school's AppleII.

I recently saw a screen of that game...I had no idea it was so bad!  lol
Great edit, Bob.

Flight Simulator II for Commodore 64.  Early 80's.

I have it now for my emulator and it still takes 3 minutes to load.

Sorry to be a moderator bashing bastard but this topic is about flight sims which is forbidden in this forum is it not? Just read its description on the main page. :P

I think it should be put back in general discussion. You moderators should set an example you know. :-/ ;) :)
