exercise really does pay off

Postby Craig. » Fri Jul 11, 2003 5:59 am

well i was up the sports field today for my daily run, and it was pretty interesting today, first of all a virgin A340 passed over at about 10000 feet, then a few minutes later a spitfire and mustang??(might have been not quite sure)(maybe part of BoB memorial flight) flew over at about 1500 feet, right into the path of an A320 on finals for Bristol, you should have seen that airbus turn:) it could have given the spitfire a run for its money that time out. ;D
and then to top it all off a C5A flew over head at about 15000 feet:)
shame i didnt have a camera, it was a rather busy moring..
exercise really is good for you:)

Well Craig, the BBMF don't operate a Mustang. Flying Legends is on this weekend so I imagine all the warbirds are making their way up to Duxford. http://www.fighter-collection.com/legends/
I'm sure the Airbus & warbirds were aware of each other. I would hope Bristol ATC are competent enough not to allow the risk of a collision.

i am not quite sure about WW2 fighters, the spitfire is about the only one i can really identify from a distance, and i can tell you this they were extremely close, i dont know what they were playing at but that airbus definatly had to make some quick moves to avoid them.

maybe it was agreed by the airbus pilots and the other two that they would be crossing close and the airbus pilot got a little worried that they were to close, i didnt have my radio on me either so i couldnt listen in to find out.i know they all would have known about it i was just extremely surprised how close they were

I'm sure if there was an "incident" it will be reported in the local papers. Whatever actually happened - you certainly had an interesting morning. :D

I should be outside myself instead of sitting here. You never know what you're missing if you stay indoors.  ::)

Lucky you Craig. Wish I'd been there to see it. The best I get is a few helis and a lot of An-2s......

Sounds like part of the Brietling fighter group.

I would have loved to see that especially them scaring an airbus. Never seen a C-5 flying before though.

If you see your first Tu-154 in holland (VERY RARE) you have the same reaction: it sounds differend, looks different and smokes

It wasn't me!!!!!!!  At that time I was tucked up in my little pit sleeping off the effects of an horrendous night shift.  In addition I am not a large aeroplane :D
