Summer Work Begins

Postby RichieB16 » Wed Jun 18, 2003 10:19 am

Well, today I start my summer job.  This is the first full time job that I have ever had and I'm not quite sure how it's gonna go.  I'm working for a local car parts company and they are splitting my time between one of the stores and their warehouse.  Today I'm in the warehouse and I think it's gonna be a lot of work.  Anyway, if you notice that I'm not on the boards as much as usual-it's because I finally have a job.

Oh joy - to actually be able to tell the difference between a "summer job" and the rest of the year ...!

I was right, it was a lot of work-but I'm glad to be doing it.

Is that the German version of Knight or does it just mean soldier (Soldaten?)?
As in Landsnecht.

The real world is yanking me by the collar and dragging me into it even more :-[

Some of you know that i've been working part time at the local grocery store for the last couple months. Well, this morning I was given an ultimatum, either try to work full time where i'm already working, or look for a second part time job or else.

The thing that's sad is that i've actually found a real world friend ( ;D), but he's going to college in the fall and if I work full time this summer we won't be able to hang out as much :(

I was hoping to enjoy the summer a little :( :'(

As far as Germany owners go-I think they are of German desent-but they aren't from Germany.  We have known the family for a long time (thats why I got this job-unemployment is so high in Oregon right now).

Anyway, I'm just making minimum wage which is $6.90 an hour here.

oh,that's a quite low wage. i get ca.16 US $ an hour for delivering newspapers.

no,Will,a "Knecht" isn't a knight. a knight is a "Ritter". this word comes from the word "reiten" (ride).
a "Knecht" is a farmer's helper, who serves him for a quite low wage. but a "Landsknecht" is a soldier ,who serves his king/lord/boss.
