Favorite Airplane Movie?

Postby Wing Nut » Sun Jun 15, 2003 8:35 pm

I'm sure this has been done somewhere and sometime, but I thought I'd give it a shot...

What is your favorite airplane movie?

Mine are:

The Bridges at Toko-Ri
12 O'Clock High
Airplane!

Honorable Mention goes to:

Apocalypse Now
Blackhawk Down
Flight of the Intruder

BTW, the Internet Movie Database lists a 'Movie' called "Uncrating and Assembly of the P-47 Thunderbolt Airplane"

You forgot 'Battle of Britain'  ;)

I voted for Airplane as the entire movie is based on one. The next movie id pick would be The Bridges at Toko-Ri. I like the flight scenes in 13 Days and Tears of the Sun, they're quite impressive

Yes, those F-18 clips gave me chills!  The words going through my mind when the loads were dropped were: "Behold airpower!" ;D

Mine by far is 12 O'Clock High.  I don't know why but I think one reason is the cast is great-especially Gregory Peck.

Part of NS4, (NJROTC Naval Science 4) which is taken by seniors, is mostly lecture. We watch 12 O'Clock High on it about the cause and effect of leadersip in the BG. My tops are.

Behind Enemy Lines
Pearl Harbour
Blackhawk Down
We Were Soldiers

Some others are that get honorable mention:

Empire of the Sun
Bat 21
Memphis Belle

Anything Spielberg touches is gold, but I consider 'Empire of the Sun' one of his best works.

Some of the flight sequences in Pearl Harbour were ok, but most of the story line was rubbish imo

I do wanna see Tears of the Sun

Why Airplane of course! But I love the P-40 flying sequences in 1941, and where oh where is TopGun?

Rex Kramer: "Striker, listen, and you listen close: flying a plane is no different than riding a bicycle, just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes."

Ted Striker: "Surely you can't be serious. "
Rumack: "Yes I am serious...and don't call me Shirley. "

Rumack: "You'd better tell the Captain we've got to land as soon as we can. This woman has to be gotten to a hospital. "
Elaine Dickinson: "A hospital? What is it?"
Rumack: It's a big building with a lot of sick people, but that's not important right now. "

"we were soldiers" was an awesome war film and "13 days" was the best movie i've ever seen.
